Question from a Dreamcast Noob.

Post by newt42 »

I'm going to acquire a Dreamcast console sometime in the next few weeks. Should I pay $50 for a disc-burning software, or actually go out and buy used copies of the large amount of games that I want to get for the console? (Or is there a complete disc-burning freeware that is capable of burning Dreamcast games?)
Systems: SNES, PS1, GBA SP, Gamecube, DS Lite, Wii, PS3 (Fully Backwards Compatible), Dreamcast, Nintendo 64, Sega Genesis, a Sega CD, and a Sega Saturn.

BootDreams, trust me. Some folks also have luck with DiscJuggler and older versions of Nero. Search the forum, people have asked many times about good burning programs for DC games.

If there's a lot of games you want, and you don't care about presentation, then obviously spending a bit on a good disc burning suite will be your best bet. There are a couple of games that don't burn well, but those ones you can purchase separately and still be ahead in the game, cash-wise. However, you'll still be stuck with the knowledge that most of your collection is a bunch of CD-Rs with sharpie to distinguish them from each other. That was fine back in high school and college, but now that I've got a full time job I want a nice looking collection.

I use an emulator until I find a game I like enough to buy. I personally like nullDC. Ive used Diskjuggler and Alchohol 120 to burn HL: Gold but thats it and it worked fine, so I assume finished games would work as well.

Alcohol 120%, and Nero (I'm using 8 currently) both work great. And really nero is just nice to have in general. I'm pretty sure they both offer free trials also.

Another vote here for Alcohol 120%. Both Nero and DiscJuggler have failed me in the past, but Alcohol never has... sounds like I need to go to an AA meeting.
