Summer Games Challenge 2018 - begin when ready!

Frickity-frick, aj. This might be more fun than one person could reasonably be allowed to have in one summer. Out of curiosity, have you not played any version of the first Resident Evil, or just not the REmake?

As for the Sega Mega Mouse, pierrot... nope. As far as I can tell, there are only eleven Genesis games compatible with it, and sixteen Sega CD games. Here's a breakdown on Sega Retro. None are Lemmings titles. Total bummer.

It's been a few years since I was looking into the Mega Mouse compatibility. I couldn't really remember all of them, but I also remember a bit of the information floating around being kind of inconsistent. I vaguely remembered this video, though, which suggests Lemmings 2 does work with the Mega Mouse: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEjASjV9XE8. Supposedly Pac-Man 2 also works with the mouse, but it's not listed everywhere, either. One day I should just go through everything I possibly can with the Everdrive, to test definitively what Genesis games work with the Mouse. Still too bad about the original Lemmings, though.

I did a deep dive into my collection, and found a few others I could potentially add to the list:

- Sakura Taisen (technically the whole series, at least up to 3 or 4)

- Atsumare!! Made in Wario (Dsh?)
- Killer 7 (Dsh? --It was a critical darling, at least)
- Metroid Prime (Would just be a matter of if I want to continue my decade+ old save, or start fresh)
- Ribbit King (Dsh? I'm just kidding, I know this is the most classic game I've listed so far)
- Super Monkey Ball
- Viewtiful Joe (I guess this, and SMB, are more philosophical questions about whether or not forgotten classics are still classics)

- Brave Fencer Musashiden (? Kind of a Viewtiful Joe situation)

- Rayman (aj has warned me in the past that it would be liable to devour my soul, though)

- Final Fantasy VI (I don't really like this game either, but have a decades old save file at the end of the game on the PS1 version)

So, there's a big ol' list. I guess the next step is to whittle it down into ten games that I want to play, and/or enough people scream at me about.

I've never played any classic style Resi - the ones I've played to date are Resi 4 and Resi 5. For the record I'm a big enough wimp that I even found Resi 4 scary at times, so I expect playing the actual survival horror ones to be traumatic.

- Sega Rally - I did this a few summers back and enjoyed myself. Takes a fair bit of repetition to master it so you can actually beat it though!
- Atsumare!! Made in Wario - is this the original WarioWare? If so I think it counts
- Metroid Prime (Would just be a matter of if I want to continue my decade+ old save, or start fresh)
- Super Monkey Ball
- Revenge of Shinobi
- Shinobi III
- Streets of Rage
- Zelda II - These are all excellent choices - Streets of Rage is a must play
- Rayman (aj has warned me in the past that it would be liable to devour my soul, though) it totally will. Its balls hard, requires 100% completion to beat, and extra lives are only available once - even getting a game over or going to a different world and coming back won't make them reappear.
- Actraiser (I don't really like this game, though) - I haven't played this one at all yet but it'd be fun to play along with you
- Dragon Quest VI I actualy have this too, but I decided to prioritise a few of my other JRPGs instead
- Final Fantasy VI Another one we could both do!
- Super Mario RPG I personally find this overrated, but I'd be interested to see what you make of it. It's no Paper Mario
- Jet Set Radio Future (Wouldn't call this one a classic, just getting creative with aj) It always seems to come up as a must own XBox title though! Again, one we could both play
- Wonder Boy in Monster Land The SMS or Arcade one? This is a good game but it's super duper tough.

No kidding? Which version were you actually thinking of playing? The original version of Resident Evil is way campier, and probably less "scary" than the remake. It's no Fatal Frame, at least.

I've played it a fair bit. I've gotten to the final stage, just never actually beat it.

I've played through about half of this before, and I find the controls a little awkward, and the action stages to be kind of busted, difficulty-wise, because of it. The sim stages are kind of different, but also sort of strange. I don't know, it's sort of a bizarre game to me, but I tend to feel like I should actually finish it, and lock it away, at some point.

- Dragon Quest VI I actualy have this too, but I decided to prioritise a few of my other JRPGs instead

Yeah, I kind of really want to play this one, but I should probably limit my list to less lengthy efforts.

- Wonder Boy in Monster Land The SMS or Arcade one? This is a good game but it's super duper tough.

I only have the arcade version that's in the Sega Vintage Collection, but it's also the only Monster World I haven't beaten in some form.

My list currently looks like this, got to whittle a few down. I know someone is going to call out a few of my choices, but honestly I'm not feeling all that flexible this year and will probably go with some variation of 10 of these:

8. An FPS (GoldenEye or Turok)

Arguably both GoldenEye and Turok are classics of their era, but while Turok was the first non-Nintendo game to become a Player's Choice, GoldenEye built on its success in many ways AND added a multiplayer component that left Turok 2 scrambling to top it. I vote GoldenEye.

For your RPGs, FF6 is probably the most "classic" of your options, but this is coming from a US perspective.

Star Control 2 is great, but it's sadly more of a hidden gem. Still...play it sometime.
