Hi all. My gaming PC rig went down about a year ago. At the time I bought it it was near top of the line, but after 6 years it showed its age. Anyway, I don't have much of a desire to fork over $2000+ on a new rig and would like to keep playing some of the games that I accumulated on it. I currently do not have an original XBOX (nor a 360 for that matter) but was curious what would be a major difference in overall quality for games that appeared on box the XBOX and PC. Obviously picking up an XBOX and a few games is much cheaper than a new computer!
Specifically off the top of my head, I have:
Star Wars: KOTOR
Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast
Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy
Elder Scrolls Morrowind
I'm sure there are other XBOX games that I could get for cheap that also were released on the PC that I never got to play. I was never into the modding scene so that aspect of PC games never interested me. So my main concern is graphics quality and playability with controller vs. mouse/keyboard. Thanks in advance!!

Re: XBOX vs. PC Version of Games
All of those games play fine on most pcs, heck all but Jedi Academy play fine on an EEE, or other similar netbook. However since you asked about the ports. KOTOR I cannot speak on, but Morrowind does not allow you to remap your controls and it is buggy (buy the game of the year edition if you can). Both Outcats and Academy play fine, if you can get use to the controls. The graphical quality on four of them is fine but nothing to write home about.
Re: XBOX vs. PC Version of Games
I spent a long time playing Morrowind: Game of the Year Edition on the Xbox, and it was actually pretty well-designed. But to me, it's all about the ability to mod in those games, so no dice personally.
Re: XBOX vs. PC Version of Games
If you mod your Xbox you can play any old console game as well.

Re: XBOX vs. PC Version of Games
Just as I suspected: The games cosmetically seem fine, just the control schemes take a getting used to.
I am curious that these might play on integrated graphics. I was always of the mindset that a dedicated chip was needed, even on modern CPU's. I'm anal when it comes to choppyness and other video related issues, hence why I stopped trying to upgrade my gaming PC in favor of consoles with fewer and fewer PC exclusive titles. Only recent game I can think of that was PC only that I really wanted was Civ IV...

You are missinformed. You can get a near top of the line gaming rig for 1099 and a decent one for 700. Anything higher is a ripoff. This includes laptops.

Either way, still not dropping that much dough for PC exclusives that are few and far between. Quite happy with my PS3 that I bought at launch for $600, lol.RyaNtheSlayA wrote:You are missinformed. I figure I can grab an XBOX with a handful of games for ~$75 and then trade for the games that I want. Under the above scenario, that's still at least 1/10 of the cost.

And all power to you. Im just stating that you can get a top line gaming system from a 3rd party manufacturer such as CyberPower for way less than 2000 dollars.enderfall wrote:Either way, still not dropping that much dough for PC exclusives that are few and far between. CyberPower, not heard of them before, but will keep it in mind in case I run out of working PC's, lol!RyaNtheSlayA wrote:Im just stating that you can get a top line gaming system from a 3rd party manufacturer such as CyberPower for way less than 2000 dollars.

Re: XBOX vs. PC Version of Games
I would imagine that most of the PC versions trump the Xbox versions all day. Higher resoulutions, smoother graphics, ability to mod and customizable controls. Enough said, PC wins.
