You can count on one hand the amount of truly great Sonic games. Outside of that, it has ranged from some of the worst ever to just good. Even the worst 3D Mario is better than the best 3D Sonic even if I like those Sonic games more as a preference. Sonic as a character is much more interesting for sure. His Sonic 2 design IMO is among the best-designed characters ever.

I think Sonic 1 on Master System is a pretty solid little platformer as well and really enjoyed Sonic Rush. You might not count them as truly great but they're pretty good.

I'm not arguing he has more great games than Mario but honestly only a few Sonic games are bad to the point of being unplayable. 06, the Wii games, and Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric are the most damning. I'd argue Sonic ultimately has more decent games than absolutely awful ones.

That was one part me not really loving it either and another part just a genuine error on my part. I completely forgot Sonic CD even existed for a split second whilst posting that. I don't even know how I did that, since I owned the PC version as a kid and loved it. But yeah, despite that, I'm not really a huge fan of it these days.

I haven't played any of the Master System Sonic games (or if I have, it was 20 odd years ago), but have heard they're pretty good platformers for what they are. I have played a couple on the Game Gear more recently though.

Sonic Rush is decent. I just haven't played enough of it and I wasn't the biggest fan of the 'boost' gameplay in 2D Sonic games.

I agree with this. I enjoy nearly all the main Sonic games that have been released so far. 06, the Wii games and Sonic Boom are terrible, but otherwise I really like all the others. Despite the games' flaws in the 3D entries, there's really no other games quite like them. Sonic definitely has more decent games that absolutely awful ones. At least, mostly. It depends on how many of the spin off Sonic games we count, but even then, I'm not sure how many of them are actually truly awful.

I think sonic mania makes you forget a lot about sonic. There is only one!!!! For real, because sonic mania has these much larger labarynthine levels like sonic cd, but so much better.

I think Sonic Mania is the best Sonic game of all time. But, that said, it's pretty new, so I don't know if I'd safely be able to say that's my opinion until more time has passed and I've played it (and all the classic 2D Sonic games) some more.

You kinda proved my point. Sonic 1 isn't that good even if it is my favorite but it's aged oh so badly. I said truly great on one hand and most of those are not truly great. Sonic 2 and maybe Mania but not played it yet. Rest of those are just decent to good. People think bad Sonic games began with 06 or 3D games but that last part is technically true. 3D blast is a steaming pile of shit and as much as I love and I mean I love Sonic R...lol it's fucking horrible! Sonic 2,Sonic CD are honestly the only Sonic games I played that match or surpass some Mario games quality.
