Should I ditch some consoles?

Post by nikon_62 »

My boss was downloading stuff for dreamcast and gave me copies of everything he made.
I got emulator disks with pretty much every game for Atari 7800, NES, Genesis and SNES.

The thing is, I actually have all of those consoles. I'm not big on clutter and my game room is cramped. Are there any big draw backs to just playing emulated games and getting rid of some consoles?

I already play arcade games on MAME so I know the hassle of mapping buttons and not having the exact same controller. That's an issue for me but it might be worth it for the lack of clutter. I'm honestly ready to flip on coin on it.

If you hate the clutter, than go for it. If you know most of the drawbacks, and still think its a good idea, then I dont really see a problem with it. Will you regret selling your systems in the future? Probably. I would put the systems into storage until you have more space.

Are there any big issues with playing emulated games that I should know? NestorDC lets me save NES games on a VMU so I'm going to do that one for sure. Is there anything I'm not thinking of though?

I keep the majority of my consoles packed up in the closet because of emulation. To me dc emulation just wasn't good enough though. It's pretty nice but the interfaces aren't that great and snes support isn't so great. If you had a modded xbox I'd say go for it, but with just a dreamcast I'd keep the other systems around.

Yeah the interfaces are so so but it's all Linux and if you know the file hierarchy it's not bad at all. Nestor DC is impressive though they did a nice job on that.

The only consoles I currently own are a Dreamcast, N64 and a Gamecube. Actually I have already sold my GC games and it serves as my little retro box via emulation. The N64 cant be emulated in my eyes because of the controller and the multiplayer. DC emulation is not worth it quite yet. I dont even have a game room so the clutter thing makes alot of sense to me, but you should get a modded Xbox or mod your GC if you already have one, and want to save space.

I just got my SNES/NES controller adapters in today so playing with the original equipment on my GC is no longer a problem. Upgrade and go for it IMO.

I got rid of everything pre 16-bit, aside from a power base converter for my genesis.

Need FreeMCboot? I'll install it on your PS2 Memory Card for free if you cover postage both ways.
Consoles: I have too much stuff
Arcade: No seriously, I have too much stuff. Someone grab a shovel and dig me out of my basement.

Seconded. I've sold one old console out of dozens, and regretted it years later. Never again!

As some have previously advised, try and store the systems if you can.
It's almost a guarantee that you will end up regretting it if you sold them.
