So I check out this site called Uncrate from time to time. They post cool products to look at once in a while. But more often than not I look at something they've posted and wonder who exactly their target audience is. The insanely rich? Example:

Now I can't say I ever wear a tie or suit or get stuff like this but $130 for a friggin tie? I defy anyone to actually be able to tell whether I spent $130 for some fancy name brand(never heard of this one) or 50 cents for one from goodwill. Hell, most the ones hanging at wal-mart have cooler patterns than these.
Going down the blog I find other stuff, a 727 turned into a hotel? $350 a night? That's not too bad for a one time cool experience.
A recommendation on an affordable home theater sound system? Alright.
Jeans. . . for $155. Uh, what?
First page, the new nissan cube, $14,000.
Who the hell is running this site? Do they actually wear stupidly expensive tv sitcom star fashion clothes and drive around in base model nissan cubes while chatting on their gold plated i-phones and discussing what the best drink at starbucks is?
Maybe starbucks is too mainstream. Or maybe they add $200 a shot liquor to their frotha motha choco-suave lattes to give it that bite to accent their sharp taste in Ohio Knitting Mills sweaters ($88-$148)
Spending stupid money?
Re: Spending stupid money?
Well, a certain amount of the cost of the tie is the pure silk nature. But as a rule people are stupid. If they see a tie for $130 they assume that there must be some reason for it. Purchasing said tie puts them in an elite group, and others flock to it. It's the same reason Abercrombie & Fitch commands high prices. The mob thinks it's worth something.

Re: Spending stupid money?
That's just how much designer stuff costs. Really none of that is that crazily priced. I mean, if you're wearing a $3000 suit you wouldn't want a $20 tie with it. Heck it's tough to get a nice tie for less than $50 even, and if you want to be all fashion forward and shit ties are only good for a couple months fashion wise.

Lol only a couple months? Uh oh. When I find a shirt or jeans that I like I buy 3 pairs so that when one wears out I'll have another and be good for 5 years down the line. But I guess in that amount of time in the fashion world it will then have become "retro" and it will be in style again!t0yrobo wrote:That's just how much designer stuff costs. Me too, I wear my clothes till they fall apart. But for some people fashion is super important, I just don't get it myself. I do have a thing for designer goods, but no clothes. If I'm gonna drop a ton of money on something I don't want it to wear out from normal use.Jrecee wrote:Lol only a couple months? Uh oh. Re: Spending stupid money?
I have a couple of pairs of designer denim, as in Diesel Jeans. That are.. 200+
Certainly the quality on the jeans is much better than 20 dollar levi's, but its certainly not 180 dollars better.
However, its almost a hobby for me.
Just like people spend "stupid money" on retro games that others consider junk.
To each his own.

Well I have to say, I'm a fan of designer women.
Oh wait, that was designing women.

Re: Spending stupid money?
Even if I were Mr.MoneyBags, I could never spend more than $30 on a tie. Even if it was woven from some fibre that came from a now extinct creature....I'd steal it. hahaha.
From time to time I watch the food network, on TV. I love it when they have a simple desert like cheese cake, then sprinkle gold flakes on it, and charge $70 a slice.
I sometimes get curious...do the gold flakes cause some kind of mystical chemical reaction, that'll send you into a state of euphoria? If so, I would consider spending the $70
Can a piece of clothing do that for you?
