It was a game from the mid to late 80s. It was a game where you were a plane, and your objective was to bomb ships. It wasn't "Atari" graphics, but a little later than that. Also, it wasn't overhead view like 1942. It was a side view perspective. Do you guys have any ideas on what this game could be called?
By the way, I love this site! I discovered it through facebook today!

Any more information you could give us? How did the ship look? Was it NES level graphics? Was it in the arcade or home consoles?

It was an arcade game. I am looking for this game for my dad, because he used to play it all the time at the Great Western Forum during the King's Intermissions. I am not sure any more details except that it was a step or two above atari graphics.

Could it possibly be P-47 Phantom Fighter, I use to play this game a lot when I was younger and I remember part of the game was over water.

Could be one of my first video game experiances ...
Blue Max
Scratch that ... I saw you said it was an arcade. Was it where you try to sink the ship and you fly over them over and over and drop bombs on them. The more you hit the same spot it sinks?

Is it Two Tigers?? This arcade game came out around 1984, and bombing ships is one of the main objectives of the game.
