Games our loved ones have beaten 2018

Post by Flake »

Gosh but we beat a lot of games. Racketboy has always been a strong motivator for non-gamers, nascent-gamers, or confused gamers to find their ways, though. How have the people you care about been doing in 2018?

Flake's Wifey: Flower (PS3)

My wife has never been a gamer other than the occasional Koi or Octopus themed phone game. But when she mentioned wanting to play Flower, I did not hesitate to put my space PS3 into her office and set up her PSN account.

She really loved the low stress nature of the game. She was surprised to find she was on the last level tonight and she told me she was happy I'd already downloaded Flow and Little Big Planet 2 for her.

I am pretty excited my Wifey entered the world of console gaming!
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Cool thread!

My wife is not much of a 'core' gamer these days, though she does get into her mobile games. Back in the day though, we were a force to be reckoned with in 2P Bubble Bobble (seriously at the height of our Bubble Bobble madness, I think we were beating the game at least once a week, sometimes more). We were also really into a super-obscure (at least in the U.S.) Dizzy game called Go! Dizzy Go! which was part of the unlicensed NES release, Quattro Arcade. She was also the most skilled player I've ever seen at Rainbow Islands, and had an unearthly gift for Dr. Mario (her routine was basically to dial the virus level as high as it can possibly go and work from there; most of the time she could clear it).

But that's all in the past! These days it's my kiddos ( twins age 8 ) who share my gaming passion, though most often for them it's in the form of Minecraft or Roblox. One upshot of this is that both of them are more comfortable with KB+M controls than they are with traditional controllers. It's crazy to watch both of them burn through 3D platformers in Roblox (or 'obbys' as they're known in that parlance), using nothing but KB+M. I'm pretty decent with KB+M (it's all I tend to use for FPS), but they smoke me especially where it comes to the 3rd person stuff.

So that's a bit of background on my brood! Soon after New Year's my daughter beat:

Minecraft: Story Mode - Season Two [PC/Steam]
At some point last year I steered my daughter towards Minecraft: Story Mode based on her interest in Minecraft and the fact that she was looking for something 'different' to play. And although it's not a super text heavy game I figured the more reading the better (especially due to the fact that like most TellTale games you have a set time limit in order to read all the choices and choose one). So she beat that one last year, but being the chincy son-of-a-gun that I am I told her we had to wait for Season Two to go on sale before we bought it. Steam Winter Sale to the rescue! She was pretty thrilled when we got it and burned through it in the span of a weekend. Now the wait is on for Season Three, assuming it's even in the works. All told, I think she would give Season Two an enthusiastic thumbs up.

I've been looking into other age appropriate lighthearted adventure games. I'm not sure she'd really be into the Monkey Island games though. Does anyone know whether the Sam and Max games are age appropriate for an 8 year old girl? I've never played any of them.
