Re: Switch Discussion Thread
It puts Nintendo into a family friendly STEM market. It is the most Nintendo release Nintendo has done in a long time.

I'm kinda intrigued. Part of me thinks it looks really interesting and creative. The other part is thinking "but it's literally bits of cardboard"...

As I was saying in Slack, this is Nintendo Mindstorms. The biggest thing they'll have to figure out when they want to expand it to user programmable stuff is lowering the barrier of entry to using the accelerometers and rumble as your input/output; you don't want people to need a deep math background to figure it out, but rather some sort of UI people can drag sliders or dots around on to dial it in.Reprise wrote:I don't get it...

What the FUCK
The PS3/PS9 era commercials seem normal now.

Don't see that as being anywhere comparable. This is a STEM learning set for families. It is eeird and unconventional, but this is Nintendo we are talking about.Xeogred wrote:What the FUCK

I also like to just point out that not everything has to cater to a specific crowd. This is a smart business move that will be a huge hit in Japanese schools for sure, which may be why they are rolling it out. It is inexpensive, very intelligent and a hit with math and sciences.

On a very base level, to me at least, being cardboard is the best part of it. Nintendo has effectively solved the problem with expensive plastic peripherals by making all the brains and movement be in the already existing Switch tablet and Joycons and by making the body an easily mass-produced sheet of cardboard.Reprise wrote:I'm kinda intrigued. I'm not sure it'll take off and be the next Wii all by itself, but the concept is fairly ingenious at just that stage, let along all the potential STEM and family applications that the others have mentioned.

I'm not saying it's bad. Just not something I expected to randomly hear about and see today.

Absolutely the same XDXeogred wrote:I'm not saying it's bad. Just not something I expected to randomly hear about and see today.
I just hope this is IT as far as new peripherals go and that these Pixel-Bit rumors were actually just that but based on LABO. I see this as a far better investment of Nintendo's manufacturing and creative energy than just another LEGO competitor.
Also not so sure on the wisdom of the name LABO when even LEGO is a prolific games series that is also even on their own console XD
