New progress shots revealed.

I'm absolutely loving the art direction and environments. As I've said before, they're doing a fantastic job of capturing the Shenmue feeling with the graphical style and environments. Although, yes, to acknowledge the elephant in the room, the character models still look a bit weird and plasticy (better than they were in teaser update though)

Yeah, I agree, the skin texture still isn't where it needs to be. But it is better than before.

The scenery, though, still looks marvelous.

Oh come on, he doesn't look that bad Most people are moaning about Shenhua, but don't mind Ryo.

I personally actually quite the character models, although I know they still need work. I quite like the direction they're going in. But I know a lot of people want them to just look identical, but with the quality you'd expect from modern graphics.

Yeah, I feel like Ryo's face is getting a lot closer to what I would expect. The angle makes it difficult for me to really say anything about Shenhua. Looking back at various promotional materials, her face has really never been drawn with much similarity, though. It's kind of crazy. (It's making me a little curious what her true identity is--.)

I'm a little more focused on the 'frumpiness' of those two models, really. However, I'm also too excited about being able to play the game, at this point, to be all that concerned with frivolous details.
Although, that's not to say I wouldn't be ecstatic if Shenhua were to show up in the game looking like this (Safe for work):

The other thing is, Ryo is a young adult. If Shenmue 3 takes place enough time after he will have grown up a little bit. Young adults can actually change a lot in appearance in a short time, especially in the face, as they mature.

Shenmue 3 supposedly begins from the moment Shenmue 2 ends, but otherwise I agree. Ryo looks fine and I don't think the face looks too different at all.

Perhaps Ryo simply looks different because this is the first time we've seen him interacting with a female character in a way that doesn't make us think he's actually thinking about roundhouse kicks.
