The "hunt" is dead, and so, too, went most of my desire.

It was all catch and release, anyways. No need to keep Little Samson or MUSHA when there's other things to enjoy.

I miss the hunt but I don’t miss the letdown or gas used or money spent to just try to find a game.
The flea market scene is all about resellers and once in a while you can get a good deal.

The days of finding any carts for that matter or good ps2, dreamcast, And ps1 titles are over.
I did find a lot of dreamcast games but I don’t consider nba 2k or nfl 2k2 the cream of the crop but hell in this day an age hell yeah

I came here to post this, and prfsnl beat me to it. There are a hundred or more fantastic games for each of these consoles. Don't forget WiiU games too. Those are selling for practically the same price as Wii games. Oftentimes they get mixed together and tossed down on a lower tier discount shelf.

And occasionally, I do still find a good old school retro Sega or Nintendo cartridge for a good deal. It's not as easy or as common as it was back in 2006, but it can still happen! About six or seven~ish weeks ago I scored a pair of complete-in-box Genesis games for a song. I think I spent ten bucks.

But you shouldn't give up the hobby just for some minor setbacks.

Stay on the hunt!

I sure do miss it. The retro game store when I was a kid had tons of NES and Genesis games for $5. Now the only $5 games I see at retro stores are sports games, and even the best sports games are marked up.

I still hunt for them, but the deals are what have dried up. I've seen quite a few rare games in places, but they are priced accordingly. I still chip around the edges, though; handhelds tend to be undervalued at times, and I generally like to buy games that actually interest me as opposed to rarity. Generally, I'll take advantage of market inefficiencies, too. If I see a game that I already have, but it's really cheap compared to its going rate, I'll snag it.

I am still finding deals at Swap Meets, Thrift Stores and of course my favorite store BookOff. No shortage of used games due to the continual huge market of new games. Older systems are harder to find, but surprises still out there. I do have concerns on newer consoles with some games requiring download updates, a limited time wise support.

Speaking of thrift stores a brand new huge Goodwill is opening today! 8)

EDIT
I'm back, woosh the line was wrapped around the store. I feel like a big wig having met the CEO of Goodwill this morning. Entire store was full of very clean pristine items. Though I was around number 30 in line, nobody seemed to had hit the DVD shelf. Found six combo DVD Bluray Disney anmation movies some with cardboard sleeves and two still sealed at $3.99 each! Well, the Beauty Beast was a buck more at $4.99, but included five discs of 3D Bluray, Bluray, DVD, Bonus disc and digital copy disc!

For games, picked up DS Rhythm Heaven and Lego Harry Potter.

I had been waiting for months driving by watching the construction of the brand new building. Normally crisp new items such as the Blurays would go directly to the Goodwill Online store at a higher price. Probably due to grand opening, the store loaded up with their best of the best donations?

Sounds like a nice goodwill. The ones around here don't use the online shop thankfully, but also they don't get much gaming either as people take it elsewhere in town out of habit, but if they do it's like shopping pre 2012 all over again. :)

I miss BookOff, and I'm curious, guessing you're using the San Diego one perhaps? Have you ever noticed them to carry PC Engine HuCards and if so, do they look to price them cheap or battle the toilet bowl that is ebay in value?

I have seen HuCards once, not very common. Price was decent, BookOff tends to price most used games at a good price below Gamestop and of course Ebay. Some titles do tend to be above the mark, usually RPGs and big names such as Mario. I blame the resellers that come in the store standing in the aisle as a wall while price checking their cell phones. My satisfaction is grabbing a rare obscure titled game under their nose while they are fixated for the Amazon screen to load. Overall, the prices at BookOff are outstanding with all games, movies and books shiny new quality.

Gaah I'm stupid! I went back a second visit at the new Goodwill with my daughter and faced the huge lines at checkout. While shifting up the line, we would spot other things in the shelf. My stupidity is setting a Sony 3d Bluray $8.97 Player down while scoping out a Minolta camera. Forgot that I left it on the shelf and it was gone when I rushed back. Ah well, was a backup of exact same model I already own. Still, frustrating loss though I would probably never use the 3D portion of it. A good model that has both Component and HDMI for optional hookup on my various SD and HD CRTs. Nice thing for my DVI HD CRT is the RCA Audio output of the player.

Store opens at 9am this morning, I'll head down there and be in line by 830 for hopes of night restock of more surprises.

A question, with 4K becoming more popular, is the 3D option dead or still viable on 4k sets?

As far as the consumer electronics consortium is concerned, 3D television is officially dead. :|

I'd say wait it out a couple more years. You'll find all that 3D stuff on the shelf of the thrift store next to the HD-DVD players for cheap. If you're still interested in 3D television then, pick it up for peanuts.

Kind of depends on how you look at it, I guess. Far as I've seen, 3D content at actual 4k resolution is...not really available for consumers. To be fair, I'm not sure how standard it even is for theaters. The hardware is there, but fairly recent, and 2k was the standard for that even a couple years back.
Either way, the 4K Ultra Blu-ray standard does not support 3D. However, that doesn't mean your Blu-ray player and 4k TV can't support playing backback of good ol' 3D Blu-rays, and there are a good number that do. In turn, there are still 3D Blu-ray releases...though at this point, you're often going to be choosing which release to spend a few bucks more on - the one with the 4K Ultra disc, or the one with the 3D disc. Personally, I'm inclined to go with the former (despite not having a TV that supports either).

I suspect it'll stick around as a niche thing though, as long as there are still theatrical 3D showings. Once the source material for releases isn't there, it'll probably be dead.
