So we used to do this for a Bible study I used to do. We did more of a point system, much like NASCAR (or Mario Kart, to keep it game-y).

Everyone listed their top three options, and assigned a value to it. The top vote got five points, the second got three, and the third got one. This covered a scenario where everyone in the group was okay with the second choice, but were very polarized on the top choice. It worked rather well, honestly.

Except no one else is ever on a king's field but me, so maybe not.
