Got rid of my cable box today...
Re: Got rid of my cable box today...
I could easily live without cable all I need is a net connection, some games and some books and I'm good. right now my household spends 100 bucks on cable plus 40 for net. ouch

Re: Got rid of my cable box today...
I never paid for cable ever. Waste of money in my book.
Hulu is the shit, and ThePirateBay gets me by when hulu doesn't have it. Hopefully Hulu doesn't crap out like so many other online tv sites and set up proprietary players that don't support linux... grrrr, I HATE THAT!
The only reason I have cable right now is because it's included in my HOA. I'd be paying for it either way, so why not just hook it up. Though it's usually only my roommate Frank watching it. And I hardly call it watching... it's more his TV is on and he's staring at DOTA.

Tvshows is the mac program I meant.
The program that automatically converts while streaming is windows only I believe. There are other ways to do it though I'm show.

Hulu is owned by NBC and backed by both NBC and ABC, I dont see it going anywhere soon.
Even though I work for one of the evil cable companies, I back everyone computer savvy ditching it and bumping up their net connection or getting a business connection. If you did not know business accounts are not typically monitored and if they are it is far less than a residential one, but they do cost slightly more (in my neck of the woods it is a $10 difference). I only use cable to watch Scrubs reruns during dinner and Lost every Wednesday. But I can get Lost over the air and Scrubs can easily be replaced with any number of shows off my network, the only thing keeping cable in my house is that it is free.

I did the same thing not too long ago. I ditched DirecTV and DSL and upgraded to 20/20 FIOS. Its amazing how much TV you can watch via Netflix and Hulu. Torrents fill in the gaps easily enough for everything else. PS3 media server and Playon let me watch everything on the PS3 and so far so good.
I considered hooking up a OTA antennae to my LCD, but I never manage to watch a TV show when it airs so I decided against it.
