So much good stuff in that haul I don't even know where to start. I think I'd be most interested in Last Armageddon and Famicom Wars, but there's a lot to love in that pile.BoneSnapDeez wrote:SEXY CARTRIDGES GALORE

Re: Games Acquired 2017
Last Armageddon is such an insane game. I love it. And, much like Emerald Dragon, it somehow managed to be released on like 50 million systems despite being some weird obscure cult RPG.
The fan translation for the Famicom game is really rough, unfortunately.
I love how the more technologically sophisticated Famicom games ended up with larger cartridges. This didn't happen with the NES, as those cart shells are huge and always had plenty of dead air inside to play around with.

I recently picked up the MMX Collection for a friend of mine. I asked him which version he wanted and he said that he didn't care. I then found out the PS2 Version is like $10 while the GCN Version is close to $50.ElkinFencer10 wrote:New for December 8
Mega Man X Collection (GCN)
Xenosaga Episode II: Jeneits von Gut und Böse (PS2)
Xenosaga Episode III: Also sprach Zarathustra (PS2)
Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (Dreamcast)
I just recently beat Xenosaga Episode 1 and found a copy of Episode 2 as well. Episode 3 is the hardest to find and I know that runs around $70 or so.
And I know that no version of MvC2 is cheap.
That is a fairly impressive haul that you got and I'm assuming you paid a pretty penny for them?

Not as much as you'd think; those were all from flake, and he cut me a hell of a deal since we're secretly gay together and all.Markies wrote:I recently picked up the MMX Collection for a friend of mine. I would argue that - at least as a whole with a few exceptions - it's, as has been mentioned, less pro-Lucifer and more putting them on equal footing a la Zoroastrianism. What I particularly like about it is that it incorporates ancient and mostly abandoned Judeo-Christian beliefs (Lucifer as an evil entity and Satan as a separate non-aligned judge type entity like Anubis, for example). It's not always accurate, but the fact that it incorporates facets of tons of religions from tons of periods of time is fascinating to me.Sarge wrote:SMT bothers me a bit more. There's a very pro-Lucifer/anti-YHWH bent to many of the games, which as you can guess is quite a bit more sacrilegious to a practicing Christian. I still play them, mind, but there's some very questionable theology there. I also know that other religions aren't exactly handled deftly, either.ElkinFencer10 wrote:I actually tend to like that in games. Coming from a non-religious perspective, I find exploration of Judeo-Christian mythology to be absolutely fascinating even if the theology isn't quite accurate. That's why I absolutely love the Shin Megami Tensei series. I've not play Xenosaga yet, though I plan to play them in the coming months.
As a vehemently non-religious person, however, I'm not going to see that at all the way you do, so don't think I'm trying to rebuke your view, per se, as much as just offering my own perspective.

No offense taken. And as I've mentioned, I've dealt with "problematic" media before. I'm not a person that goes out of my way to be offended, but I do stay cognizant of the theological side of things from my own perspective, much as I do with politics, too. I'm secure enough in my faith that such a representation wouldn't affect my faith one iota, but that doesn't mean I have to enjoy those aspects.
The SMT series is solid stuff, though. I still need to get around to making a run at SMT: Nocturne, given that it's probably the best PS2 RPG I haven't beaten.
Actually, Atlus should do a remake of that game for modern systems.

Nocturne has been sitting on my shelf, too. It's just a bit intimidating after the 120 hours I sank into Persona 3 FES.

I have modified your quote to reflect my feeling on the matter.Sarge wrote:I still need to get around to making a run at SMT: Nocturne, given that it's probably the best PS2 RPG I haven't beaten.
Beating Nocturne would take half the time you spent on P3FES. You should really play it man. If nothing else to see how different legit SMT is versus the Persona stuff.ElkinFencer10 wrote:Nocturne has been sitting on my shelf, too. Geez, Bone, how much money did you drop on that set? I wish I could get a copy of Shining Force CD and Dungeon Explorer II. I actually do own the Sega CD version, although not complete. I've got ToDII, Vagrant Story, and E.G.G. from back in the day.
