Split Screen with PVM Trinitron + Wii

Post by CountGooby »

Hey all,

I've been trying to stream my Wii in component on my PVM Trinitron, but when I do the screen gets split in half on 480p, but not for 480i. Has anyone else had this problem or know a fix for it?

It doesn't split the screen when I try it with an HDTV, and I've tried it with another PVM and the screen gets split on it, so maybe it's a problem with the PVMs?

Also, I can get it working in 480p with a PS2 with component cables too, so maybe the Wii has something to do with it too?

I've tried searching around online and couldn't find the solution, so any help is appreciated :D

Model number? Check Sony Support site for PDF User Manual
Your PVM even though it has Component input likely supports only 480i, but then the PS2 at 480p would have the same video distortion issue. Are you sure the PS2 is displaying at 480p? For the games that support 480p you need to hold down a button combo (usually Triangle and X) during startup.

Many CRT TVs have a 480i tube even with Component inputs; called Color Stream back then which offered better separation over Composite and SVideo Chroma Luma and will display only 480i.

Here are some PDFs for older Sony products, some PVMs listed:

The model number is PVM 20m2u, I couldn't find the manual for it on the websites you listed:0

I'll check if the PS2 is outputting in 480p tonight.

Running the PS2 in 480p (not all games support 480p) will confirm if the same issues.
Suspect even though your monitor is 800 lines will not support progressive scan.

Your monitor does not support 480p. It's 480i (or 240p, which is a 480i hack) only. The only Sony PVMs that accepts 480p are the L5s.
