Re: Favorite controller of the 8th gen
Speaking of native PC/Steam support, the Wii U Pro Controller is natively supported by the Steam Link. I actually use it more on the Steam Link than on my Wii U.

Yeah, Steam has support for that and the DS4 if you launch games through it (used to just be in Big Picture, I have been told it works outside of that now). Very customizable as well. I assume the Steam Link utilizes the same support.

Not tried the Switch Pro but the Wii U is just crazy with battery life. it's got the looks too, aside from the gloss. It feels like a true evolution of the SNES pad, and reminds me heavily of the 360 pad which is a good thing. Overall though I'd have to say the XB1 controller wins, but only if you get some good thumbstick covers. I have an old-style controller and the sticks look like a couple of tires way past their rated tread life. Other than that it has all I want in a controller. I may pick up a newer one soon.
Sort of related, what are the best third party controllers for this gen? I really like the Hori Fighting Commander but that's a special use case.

I dug out the old Wii Pro controller. Well both of them. The one with handles and the one without. The one with handles, I didn't have any issues with it back in the day putting thousands of hours in RPGs on the Wii. Now I dislike it. It's awkward completely forgot how awful Nintendo analog used to be with the octagon around it. So it's not smooth moving the sticks. They don't click either, same with Gamecube. The shoulder buttons give no feedback. Gamecube kind of seems bad now, then again I only have Smash ones and I believe rumble is missing as they feel pretty light. Wii U pro controller I used to like a lot. Now after the Switch Pro. It kinda sucks as it makes every analog Nintendo controller look like month old butt in comparison. The sticks are insanely smooth. D-pad is less stiff than Wii U and Wii. Face buttons...well there Wii Pro is on par. Wii U Pro feels a bit wide and I don't have small hands. Shoulder buttons on the U Pro have some feedback but very little where in contrast the Switch Pro is a very clear click. I don't dislike the U Pro but no longer a huge fan like I used to be. No problems where the sticks are placed, that was always a non-issue with me. Switch Pro is not without fault. The + - Home and Record buttons could feel more distinct. Often hitting the capture button when I mean to hit the - button while playing Xenoblade 2. I'd love a headphone jack. If you get a Switch, shell out the cash for a Pro, it's worth it.
