Can't go wrong with either the XE or 7800 version.

The 2600 version is impressive but just nowhere near as good.

Farming for certain power-ups (once you know which enemies drop them) can be very helpful, though that means you do end up periodically grinding.

Thanks for the protips gentlemen. I'm playing as a warlock in Dungeon Explorer, so I think I'll farm for those magic skulls. 7800 version of Dark Chambers looks nice, I'll probably hit it up soon. I'm thinking about playing some Gauntlet IV as well, maybe I can get some co-op going with that.

Some enemies will actually drop stat boots. They are semi-permanent, meaning that they boost the stat in question until you die. Things like axe heads for attack or crowns for intelligence or boots for speed. Also, when you grab the gem after beating a boss, the color the gem is when you grab it affects which stat is boosted from that level-up.
