Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Just hooked up a stereo system to my gaming TV: WOW!!

Post by Original_Name »

I've been playing my videogames on televisions with stock mono set-ups since I first started in 1994. Just recently, I finally figured out a way to arrange my consoles in a way that allows me to fit my rather nice stereo in with them (haven't gone off to college yet, so my living space consists of only a few square feet). So I've been playing Shenmue II lately with the stock mono speakers which are built into the TV, but I just now hooked up my stereo to the TV and... oh... my... GOD. I had no idea this was what the game was supposed to sound like!! The full orchestra sound blaring at me in crystal-clear quality; better yet, I can hook up my headphones to get a more immersive experience! Just walking down the street is now an incredible experience (well, it already was just for the extreme detail of the game, but now it's just the most majestic thing ever conceived... now I gotta play it on a VGA monitor... if I ever find one).

I popped in Jet Grind Radio, as it has one of my favorite videogame soundtracks ever; the hipness of said soundtrack has just been cubed! The subleties and overall dynamics of everything have been completely revamped! Absolutely incredible! I had no idea how much audio adds to the gaming experience, and I've always been a huge fan of videogame soundtracks!

Now I'm gonna have to play through all my favorite games again, just to revel in their glorious soundtracks!

 I remember when I overauled my setup just a few years ago- sames situation, a mono Sanyo I've had since '97, upgraded with a surround sound system, and s-video at the same time (from RF, the worst connector ever)

I know exactly how you feel! It's nice.

1993 was when I first hooked up a Stereo Hi-Fi system to my SNES via the A/V cables. My god, was I blown away. I immediately went out and bought a stereo headphone jack to 2xRCA plug to listen to my Megadrive in stereo also (via the headphone jack, as the rear A/V out only supplied mono until the Megadrive/Genesis 2).

Good sound can add so much to a game's atmosphere. It's definitely recommended not to skimp on good speakers for your game consoles, no matter how old they are.
