Fun topic: Closer or further from TV?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Fun topic: Closer or further from TV?

Post by RCBH928 »

I hope this is not considered a topic that is "crap" under the "extra" attention paid to quality posts on racketboy.com now days . Its just a topic for fun.

I never heard/seen this question being asked. Back in the day , TV's were small and you had to sit close up to pay attention for details. Now TV's are big, and people work on the idea that "the bigger the better" , I am not sure if I want to play SF4 with characters are as big as my wall.

But what is your choice, would you rather sit up close to a small monitor(maybe laptop) and play and pay attention to all the details. Or get a large TV and sit 5 meters away playing off your couch? Or do you think some games work better on larger TV(maybe sport games?) and others work better on small screens(maybe puzzles). Join the discussion .

I do most of my gaming on my PC, so I'm up close for all of that. My room is also about the size of a coffin, so I'm pretty much forced to watch my TV up close too. I've always hated sitting far away though. it just doesn't feel right.

I like playing on a bigger screen and sitting further away. Obviously there comes a time when you go too big. I really do not like sitting close to the screen, which is one of the reasons I never got into PC gaming as much as I took a liking to console gaming.

I've always been used to being close to my screens. As a kid it was the NES on top of the TV, so you had to be close for the cords to reach. Then it was the TV in the bedroom with a chair two feet away from the dresser. High school and college was all about the PC, so again my face is up against it. Now I've got a large HD TV that I sit about 7-8 feet away from (mostly due to apartment size). I've gone back to my parents' house a few times, and they have the same size TV as me, but it's at the end of a 20 foot room. It ends up feeling so small, and I feel isolated from the action. It was quite odd playing Metroid Prime 3 on their setup.

I play all my classic systems (32 bit and back) on my 29" crt. everything after that i play on my 62" lcd. Just something about playing games on the same type of tv like i did when i was a kid makes the retro experience seem that much better to me. (when i was a kid, 29" was huge!) But i am still looking for a wooden cabinet tv like they had in the late 70's to make it feel just right.

I much prefer to sit closer. i usually play on a 13" (I think) screen. I mostly play shmups so it's nice to sit right up close anyways. But for multiplayer bigger is always better.

i'm close up most of the time, especially with the ammount of rpgs i play, the text can be so small that if i were laying on my bed, across the room from my tv, i would not be able to see, and with titles like Lost Planet and Dead Rising(both capcom) using the smallest text imaginable, one almost has to sit close to see.

p.s. i love capcom

I hate being anywhere away from the action so I keep a pretty close range. Also I like having the TV higher and tilted down if that's of any relevance so no neck strain, and Split-screen always equals "Bigger is better".

I press my light gun to the screen when I play duck hunt.

I'm sorry.
