The main reason I want Panzer Dragoon Mini isn't because I think it's cheap or good but because it's the only Panzer Dragoon game I don't have, and I'm a huge fan of the series.

>Dunpeal, bolded entries I would prioritize:

SNES/SFC:

Pocky & Rocky <---I was never a fan, gets old fast for me. Maybe funner co-op.
Hagane <---Very nice looking, VERY HARD. Still need to beat this myself.
Mega Man 7 <---I think it's better than it's reputation would suggest.
Rockman & Bass <---Fun Mega Man comfort food, hardly essential.
Final Fight 2 <---FF3, and FF: Guy are better. But FF2 is still better than SoR2. ;p
Final Fantasy III / VI <---If you've never played this, it's essential.
Umihara Kawasi <---Freaking awesome platformer. In general, one of the best platforming series ever made.
Macross: Scrambled Valkyrie <---Never played.
Super Castlevania IV <---Super fun Castlevania, I love the whip mechanics.
Axelay <---Man is this shmup hard, very pretty graphics and great music.

Genesis:

Toejam & Earl <---This game bores me silly, even co-op.
Sonic 3 <---Pure Sonic love. If you've not played, do so now. Literally NOW
Atomic Runner <---Never played.
Vapor Trail <---Above average shmup, but not the best on Genesis.
Bare Knuckle 3 <---Eh if you love SoR it's important.
Castlevania: Bloodlines <---Another solid 16-bit Castlevania, choose the spear guy.
Hellfire <---No opinion.
Fire Shark <---No opinion.
Two Crude Dudes <---This game is hilarious to play co-op, I loved it.
Mega Man: The Wily Wars <---No opinion.

GB(C):

Kirby's Dream Land <---Fun, very short, way too expensive for how short it is.
Pokemon Blue <---No opinion. No positive opinion anyway.
Pokemon Silver/Crystal <---See above.
Bionic Commando <---The GB Bionic Commando is GREAT. Stay away from the GBC "Elite Forces" one though.
Ninja Gaiden Shadow <---YES.
Dragon Quest 1&2 <---The GBC version of Dragon Quest is pure and simple joy. Not played DQ2 yet.
Mario Land 2 <---Very fun. Tends to be forgotten by Mario lovers, sadly.
Konami GB Collection Vol 3 <---No opinion.

GBA:

Mega Man Zero <---Cool, pretty, hard as piss fire. Learn to love spikes.
Mega Man Zero 2 <---Good, hard, slicing robots in half never gets old. SPIKES IN YO SPIKES
Double Dragon Advance <---Never played this. Is it unique?
Gunstar Super Heroes <---I like this better than the Genesis original. That makes me unpopular with the ladies.
Final Fantasy Tactics <---No opinion.
Golden Sun <---I've tried three times to get into this. It's just painfully verbose. Probably good if you can get past that.
Ninja Five-0 <---Bionic Commando and Ninja Gaiden had a baby. It's a lovely baby. Last boss is a DICK.

Double Dragon Advance is indeed an original title in the series. It's basically the original Double Dragon but with gameplay that more closely resembles the SNES Super Double Dragon, except faster, tighter, and with more available moves. There are a couple issues, like in a couple places being able to get an enemy stuck where you can't kill them and thus can't advance, and that sucks, and the game is also hard as balls. Oh, and playing on any version of the GBA hardware will destroy your hand because of the control scheme, but the SP will destroy your hands faster.

Final Fantasy Tactics on GBA is an interesting version of the game. I didn't beat it, but I played a lot of it. Basically, it's FFT, but with random encounters and random rules imposed on the battles. So you might fight a combat where you can't use magic, or you can't defend, or you can't attack (only use magic). I seem to recall it was pretty fun. It's been a while, though.

Damn, Ex, much appreciate you taking the time for that. Some thoughts on those

SNES/SFC:

Final Fight 2 <--- So, this is a series I have little experience with. FF2 and FF3 both seemed very interesting, but perhaps I should prioritize 3. Does Guy have any selling point if I plan to pick up Final Fight CD?
Final Fantasy III / VI <---I have played the hell out of this, just don't own it.

Genesis:

Toejam & Earl <---Another guilty pleasure.
Sonic 3 <---Another one I love, just am somehow missing.
Atomic Runner <---Highly, highly recommend. It is lovely. The stage 1 music alone sells the game. It is one of my favorite Genesis games, hands down.
Vapor Trail <---Guilty pleasure, huge fan of Data East and their Genesis conversions. I agree its not in the top tier on the console, but that music!

GBA:

Double Dragon Advance <--- Also highly recommend this one. Perhaps blasphemy, but its my favorite DD game by a mile. It is a unique game too, not just a port.
Golden Sun <---I've tried three times to get into this. It's just painfully verbose. Probably good if you can get past that. I have a similar experience. Perhaps I should see if I can get into it via emulator first.

You have me even more hyped for many of the bolded games. Do you have any experience with Trip World on the GB? (Price aside that is, I know its a wallet burner). Seeing as NES isn't in my collecting forte, Sunsoft is the one dev that I sorely miss having anything from, as their NES offerings are legendary, and from there they seem to have kinda disappeared.

Oh no, I've only ever emulated it, and had not considered this. :?

Thanks for the information Maru.

FF3 is the best FF on SNES, so yes I think you should. I don't know much about Final Fight CD. Final Fight Guy isn't essential, really. My favorite 16-bit beat 'em up is Splatterhouse 3 btw.

Yes, I beat it years ago on an emulator. Lovely little platformer. Its aesthetics are off the chart, truly wonderful art direction. However Trip World's not very challenging, anyone will beat it very quickly. As pretty, cute, and unique as it is, Trip World isn't worth its insane price in any rational person's mind. I say emulate and enjoy it, and call it done.

If you haven't played through Gimmick! (Japanese version preferably), I wholeheartedly recommend it. The OST alone is phenomenal, let alone the kickass gameplay.

Splatterhouse Part 3 is insanely good, that should have been on my list. I had the US release at one point, but was not a fan of the gameplay changes they made. I get graphic censoring, but don't mess with ma gameplay! (For similar reasons, I had to buy sfc Ninjawarriors Again, and will have to buy jp Bare Knuckle 3).

Super great game though. While we are talking beat em ups, anyone who loves the genre and hasn't spent time with The Ninjawarriors Again very much should. Its really damn good. As above, though, jp version is recommended, as they replaced the female enemy, but instead of a sprite replacement they just added more of another type of enemy, which throws off the mixups.

Good info on Trip World, another one to romp through on an emulator, which I'm sure will be enjoyable. If I find the one play enough, then its a purchase I am more than okay avoiding

Following my prior list, I've decided to concentrate on the Mega Drive (or Genesis to the Americans) for the time being and I've added some games to my list that I forgot about. So I just picked up Shinobi III and that leaves just two games currently left in my want list that aren't ridiculously expensive. Since they're the same genre, I wouldn't mind hearing some thoughts on which one I should pick up.

Ristar
Rocket Knight Adventures
Own: Mega Drive, Saturn, Dreamcast, Playstation 1, Playstation 2, Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Playstation 5, PS Vita, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Wii U, Game Boy Advance, DS, 3DS, Switch, Switch 2, Xbox, Xbox 360

I found Double Dragon Advance pretty easy overall. The only enemy that will really give you fits is the agents in suits, and even those are pretty easy to handle if you're using your block button. (If you can believe it, I played most of the game without it and did okay.)

Then again, I have played a lot of Double Dragon...

A possibly point for those is that Ristar is fairly widely available in (legal) emulated form and Rocket Knight Adventures is not, last I've seen. So that'd make RKA more logical to me.

Rocket Knight Adventures is good. Ristar is not.
