Man, I would really enjoy your opinion of it, contrasted against the others. You really should play through it. I loved it. With all your experience with the other Souls games, you could probably knock it out quickly.

Definitely. It was the one I played last as well, and my first playthrough (sorcery) was 20 hours or so, and second (melee) a little under 15. I suspect Xeogred or others with more experience with DeS specifically would routinely run it under 10 hours. It's easily the shortest of them all.

I really, really want to play Demon's Souls, but I do not own a ps3 :( I've considered buying one just for that game, but just haven't made the plunge yet.

The RPCS3 emulator works for it - made the news rounds earlier this year for DeS being fully playable on it, and last month showing it off at 4k.

I honestly no bullshit think Demon's Souls is worth the price of an old beater PS3. Not to mention the other PS3 exclusives that'll give you access to.

I'll put it like this; I've nearly beaten 100 games in 2017, and out of all those, Demon's Souls was the best. Not just the best, but like miles ahead of the rest the best. It's that good. Made me a believer.

Sadly, on top of lacking a ps3, I also lack a good pc.

I believe the game being worth the console, and it wouldn't be the first time I'd have bought a console for one game. I'll see if I can find one on the cheap, as I really do want to play the game.

Demon's Souls is the best game on the PS3 and the best game in the Soulsborne series.

Let that sink in dunpeal.

I finally started playing Dark Souls II and... I kind of hate it. For the first time with a game in this series I'm not sure I'm going to finish it and if I do I know I'm going to just ignore some optional stuff to get it over with.

A lot of things from the art and level design, the lore and the combat all seem off. It's like every element of the game has taken a step back. There are a few things that I think are clever and there's some quality of life changes I wish had stuck around in DSIII but that's about the only thing positive I can say.

I'm feeling kind of awkward because I love Dark Souls and Dark Souls III so much, they're among my favorite games of all time. I want to say Dark Souls II probably isn't a bad game but considering what I want it to live up to the disappointment is making the experience more painful.

To call this high praise would be a severe understatement  I'm looking forward to it!

Otherwise, however, if you haven't seen 'em... The studio behind Lords of the Fallen earlier this year released The Surge, which is a sci-fi Souls-like. I haven't tried it yet as I was lukewarm on their previous game.

Bandai-Namco is also looking to fill their Souls-shaped void with Code Vein, which is post-apocalyptic vampire stuff, skewing a bit more towards more anime type design, which might end up fitting what you're looking for.
I followed the first few gp videos of The Surge, I ended up disregarding it because of the premise (too much bland near-future there for me), and the fact that it just didn't seem as fun to me.

I am a fan of Souls mainly for the lore and atmosphere, and the Surge just didn't look like it hit those notes. I imagine an Alien-Souls, exploring the dead world of the Space Jockeys (I should say Engineers now I guess?) with all these unexplained horrors mixing aliens, genetic engineering, and the supernatural coming at you from all sides as you move inexorably forward toward the source of all the nastiness.

Code Vein has a look that I'm iffy about, but if it looks fun to play I'll check it out when the time comes!
