Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Racketboy Charity Auction 2017 Planning

Post by Anapan »

I was the one who lagged the auction closing last year by 8 months (physically unable to complete and send my donation), but I'm still willing to manage it this year as I did last year. I always have fun with it regardless of the net collected donation - every little bit helps to someone in need.
As discussed before - a poll doesn't actually get an indication of participation. What I'm really looking for is if any of the previous participants or any newcomers have any thoughts about doing it again. I'm just as interested in a negative as a positive at this point - a 3 person auction group is not worth my time, but last year's 15 page auction bidding thread was a complete success my my mind.

Well, let's make this the planning thread. A lot of my gaming stuff is still packed up, so I don't know how much I'll have to throw in, but I can always look.

But we should also do our homework when finding causes or individuals to support. With the big hurricane season what it was, there may be some members with family who were impacted who may still need assistance.

OK!
As we've established that this year is a go, I will be accepting donations via PM, and also monitoring this thread.

Any nominations for the charity this year? I last year was handled a little sloppy, tho at the time it was the best way I could think of to keep the recipient anonymous (he didn't ask for anything, so I couldn't just lay his personal stuff out here)
I had a close friend die of cancer recently. Does anyone have a suggestion for a cancer research-related charity?

I plan to start the auction on Dec 1st, and I'll be posting a WIP donation thread as I build it about a week earlier to discuss and clarify donations. I'm planning to have the cutoff for donations on Dec 9th, tho tho the cutoff has been quite flexible in the past, and I've always appreciated being able to donate items late. Any thoughts on that?

My list of charities to be voted on here:

Terry Fox foundation http://www.terryfox.org/
Riley Children's Hospital https://www.rileychildrens.org/

Please suggest others

I've decided to add in the ASPCA and the Food Fortification Initiative.
I'll start the poll tomorrow.

Further discussion should move to the poll thread for now.
