Dash is the best of the Cat Girl Nuku stuff. But really out of that big list I posted for you, this particular anime should go towards the bottom of the priority list.

They are not as good as the first half of the original Aika series, but are equal or better than the latter half of the original series.

I actually had the wiki pages up for Votoms and City Hunter up as I read that! I'll probably track both down soon. I love the description and the influences cited are some f my favorites.

As for Lupin, I've only seen a bit of the first series, but I didn't care for it as much. There are definite Green-jacket purists out there but it's a different show. Maybe it's just that I saw Red first, but I feel the characters are developed into a much more likeable cast and the quasi-70s setting fits the series perfectly. I have watched the bulk of the red jacket series, and about a dozen movies/OVAs and I'd recommend it to anyone. It's episodic for the most part, so no major arcs that I can remember, but I like that aspect honestly. It's a show to watch more for the characters and comedy than the stories. For a show to just binge or have on in the background, it's perfect.

That DVD set looks killer, I remember having to track down the Pioneer DVDs years ago, some of the first anime DVDs I'd ever bought, and the first I ordered from Japan. I don't have them all though so I may get it just to have everything in one set.
Glad you liked it! Looking forward to your impressions on our other recs.

Yeah I figured if you like Lupin you're cool with episodic stuff... City Hunter is purely episodic, but does have a lot of two parters (especially in season 2). It's all character driven awesomeness. With a few recurring characters that are a real treat whenever they show up. The sexy Saeko always makes me think of Ada Wong from Resident Evil. It's legit one of the happiest, fun vibes show I've ever seen, just a pure blast with a perfect blend of comedy, action, "mokkori" (boners basically), and life lessons from Ryo. And fun fact, the voice actor for Ryo is the same guy who is the original Kenshiro, but it's so different haha.

I can totally see that with Lupin. I have a friend who likes the Red series way more than Green as well, so yeah it all seems to add up. That and Mazinger Z are the big ones I want to get from Discotek sometime.

Always wonder how many people here go buy a physical copy of an anime show or stream it. Just slowly convert my physical copy I collect and transfer the show to a big HD right now for space reason.

I like to buy some Discotek/Rightstuf/Nozami classic anime here and there. Don't buy too much but it's not a knock on anime, I don't own very many movies either. Videogames gets all my money.

I've also never really felt too guilty about downloading anime because of fansubs and such.

I'll pick up physical copies of some of my favorites or when I want to make sure to support the studio or distributor, but for the vast majority I'll download my anime. It's just too hard and expensive to find a steady stream of older anime series and OVAs (most anime I watch is pre-2000) on disc.

When I first started stockpiling anime, buying DVDs was actually a space saving measure for me, but it was HDD space I was interested in keeping under control. In the age of 3-4TB HDDs under $100, this isn't really an issue anymore.

Buying anime? When I was a teenager I spent hundreds of dollars on VHS tapes. When I was in my twenties I spent thousands of dollars on DVDs. In my thirties I sold it all (and gave some away) and went purely digital. Typically once I've seen an anime, I very rarely ever watch it again. So downloading/streaming just makes more sense these days.

With shows, I tend to stream things these days, via legal means. I do like collecting anime, but buying each and every series that might look interesting would add up, and Crunchyroll/etc have a lot on tap. More than I have the time or inclination to watch. Additionally, as with fansubs back in the day, new shows are going to be up for streaming before the discs are ever an option anyway.
So, more often than not, when I do buy DVDs or Blu-rays for shows, they're for things I've already seen.

Movies, on the other hand, are not usually as available on streaming, so I just tend to buy them.

In my twenties I spent over $2000 on anime DVDs, at least. Now that's over the course of about eight years. That's about $250 a year. As expensive as legit anime DVD series were back then, that wasn't hard to do.

I bet Xeogred would blow his own mind if he tallied up how much he spent on video games.
