Beat 'em ups article

Post by Ack »

Hey guys, just trying to check the interest level for a future article among my people, if you get what I mean about users of the Fighting Forum.

I was thinking about doing a piece on Beat 'Em Ups for the Super Nintendo. Would you guys be interested in reading about them, and what kind of information would you like to see included? Control schemes? Regional availability? The number of characters? My opinion of them? Also, would you prefer I do a top five, or a rundown of all released in certain regions(I'm pretty sure EU has the fewest while Japan has the most, but there's still a lot in the EU)? How would you like it organized? I figured it's partially because I'm interested in the topic, and partially because others are as well, so I figured I'd ask.

Let me know what you think.

I would like to see control schemes, boss fights, special moves, number of choosable characters, enemy variations, and anything that separates the game from others in the genre

So you'd be interested in considering things like whether it's flat 2D or a faux 3D plane you can walk up and down, or whether its linear or a maze-like game?

yes. I would really look forward to the article too, beat'em ups are one of my favorites and I pretty much missed all of SNES games except for Turtles in Time

Well, there are 85 that I know of at least(well, beat 'em ups and hack and slash games...haven't found a good way to separate), spread across all regions, I'm wondering what would be the best way to break it down.

Going by region would be a good way to start. Maybe do an article by region. After splitting regions then next divider i think could be 2D or "3D" levels

Sorry my original ideas were unorganized, I pretty much just thought of all of the things I like about the games and put them down really fast.

Well, potentially separating the hack and slash from the beat em ups would lower the number, then divide by region, but I'd have to find a definite way to consider what was what. Is King of Dragons a hack and slash when the later DnD games that really spun off from it are considered beat 'em ups?
