Yeah that's the only explanation I can think of.
Sounds like licensing hell too. Like there's something that's been preventing Kageyama from working with Toei again to do new Dragon Ball songs, which would be mindblowing. But noooooooo, paperwork says not allowed.

Re: Your Unpopular TV/Film opinions.
Oh, yeah. I'm sure everyone is getting some financial gain out of it, or they wouldn't do it. I just find it a little disappointing that I can't think of any recent shows where I can hear a song and think, "Oh yeah, that's the * theme."
Re: Your Unpopular TV/Film opinions.
That's a good point. Now they all just sound like generic jpop or jrock songs. None of them seem to have really tuned-in themes that are clearly recognizable.
Re: Your Unpopular TV/Film opinions.
I won't name everything memorable but the 3 off the top of my head for interesting intro music is GiTS: SAC, Cowboy Bebop, and Irresponsible Captain Tylor. Some of the older stuff seemed to be more distinct to me. Maybe I am thinking more of a lot of modern stuff. You guys have a good explanation tho. More J-pop and changing it up means more marketable. Eh..shame.
Re: Your Unpopular TV/Film opinions.
If you only consider the movies, I believe the prequel Star Wars trilogy offers a much more interesting universe than the originals (outside of RotJ), even though they suffer for it somewhat.
Re: Your Unpopular TV/Film opinions.
I thing it presents a very different universe, but I don’t necessarily agree that it is more interesting.
Re: Your Unpopular TV/Film opinions.
Empire Strikes Back had bounty hunters. That is all that matters.
As for anime themes, the best theme was the original Record of Lodoss War. Then again, that was also the best anime.

I've been thinking of this today, and the only recent anime (say, the last 5 years or so) that I've watched where I can remember the opening theme is One Punch Man. And half of the reason for that, is that the song literally starts with someone screaming "ONE PUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNCH!" right at the beginning. Other than that, I'm coming up blank.marurun wrote:That's a good point. Now they all just sound like generic jpop or jrock songs. Re: Your Unpopular TV/Film opinions.
I'd never put the NT over the OT, but I've become a bit of an apologist for the new trilogy haha. George Lucas was good at world building and there's a lot of stuff you can do from his blueprints. I don't have much faith in where Disney is steering the ship now. The Force Awakens has gotten worse with a few rewatches and I thought Rogue One sucked, it was insanely boring and they utterly disgraced Peter Cushing.chuckster wrote:If you only consider the movies, I believe the prequel Star Wars trilogy offers a much more interesting universe than the originals (outside of RotJ), even though they suffer for it somewhat.
Re: Your Unpopular TV/Film opinions.
Star Wars is just ok to me. Just kinda eh whatever. Will watch the films on Netflix if really in the mood but otherwise. Meh whatever. I'm not in the least bit hyped about Last Jedi.
