Re: Your Unpopular TV/Film opinions.
I was listening to a podcast last week and they made an offhand mention about the Seinfeld finale being terrible. If that's a popular opinion then count me in the minority, I liked it. Now don't get me wrong, it's not their best by far, nor is it that great but it's passable.
Re: Your Unpopular TV/Film opinions.
Anime intro songs for the most part sound so alike to me. They are also typically just awful. I wish they would skip the long intro or do a theme song without lyrics and shorten them, please. They often seem too long.

I tend not to care so much for most Jpop vocals, but Jrock musicians are often quite skillful. Japan’s music industry puts out much busier and more interesting percussion, for example.

Kenji Kawai approves of this post.marurun wrote:I tend not to care so much for most Jpop vocals, but Jrock musicians are often quite skillful. Japan’s music industry puts out much busier and more interesting percussion, for example.
Anyways yeah, too broad of a claim there. There's probably a million anime openings and I wouldn't dismiss a thing so easily.

The comment is based on the anime I have seen but not all anime in general. I don't watch as much as some on this board but seen plenty in my time and in my experience a good chunk of them sound too similar.Xeogred wrote:Kenji Kawai approves of this post.marurun wrote:I tend not to care so much for most Jpop vocals, but Jrock musicians are often quite skillful. Re: Your Unpopular TV/Film opinions.
The issue I have is that new anime shows tend to get a lot of openings/endings, especially modern shounens. One Piece probably has literally at the very least 50 different openings, whereas Dragon Ball Z at almost 300 episodes, had 2 openings. Dragon Ball Super (new) has probably like 10 by now. You'd think this would be expensive and I don't really know why they do it. When they keep changing them it's hard for any of them to be memorable or iconic, unlike a lot of older cool openings.
Toriko had a really good first opening that lasted a long time. One of the better ones in recent memory to me:
Here's a really cool unique one from Panzer World Galient:

I've noticed that lately, too. I mean, I get changing it up from season to season, but a couple of the newer ones seem to switch it up sporadically. I was watching the 3rd season of Sailor Moon Crystal, a show with only 13 episodes, and even it had 4 different end themes, all of which had their own, unique animations. I couldn't help but think that time could have been better spent making the rest of the show better, but maybe that's just me.Xeogred wrote:The issue I have is that new anime shows tend to get a lot of openings/endings, especially modern shounens. I think I prefer the older method for longer shows, where they'd keep the opening song and then change the endings from season to season. It helps to better link the association between the opening theme and the show.
Re: Your Unpopular TV/Film opinions.
It may also be a cross-marketing tactic. I mean, anime singles do sell. So they do 1-1.5 minutes of extra animation, play a short song, and they get a single they can sell to the otaku for cash money.
