Was that episode like ~70-90 something? Yeah, I've heard good things about the first two major arcs or something and Aizen. But then it only got worse... and worse.. and worse apparently.MrPopo wrote:I watched Bleach up to the point where Ichigo beats Aizen, then stopped, because that was a good conclusion to the events of the story. I never understand why they have to push that many episodes as the creators will run out of ideas and have to use filler which doesn't push the story forward anymore and eventually get boring.
I thought show around 50 episodes is way pushing it.

To be honest I really don't fret too much about length thesedays. I remember thinking Monster was a huge one at almost 80 episode or something. But at ~20 minutes an episode it breaks down kind of differently, if you compare it to live action shows. Which so many people binge thesedays, anime consumption isn't more taxing or anything.
I think it goes both ways too. The trend thesedays is for most shows to only be ~12 episodes since it's cheaper I guess. If that does well, we get another season. But it ends up being hard to get that invested in shows that are only this length. I even find these shows to be the type that takes me the longest to finish, for whatever reason. (I'm about done with Lain though and it's been an easy watch).
When I got back into anime around 2007 I was really against shounen. Maybe some early adult angst thinking I was too good for it, but that's all changed now. I still love the format of these huge shows with giant story arcs, characters that grow and change along the way, time leaps, so much world building and lore. But yeah, the quality of the shounen itself can certainly vary greatly. One Piece recently surpassed 800 episodes and okay yeah, at that point it's comical and almost impossible for me to sell anyone on it now. But it's been an awesome journey and I just let arcs finish up, then binge it over a week to keep caught up usually. DB/Z/Super is my favorite shounen world and series though. It's so much cooler in Japanese and I love it. I also liked Hunter x Hunter a lot, but it's also one with the unfinished issue of the author taking breaks all the time. Fairy Tail was cool but I think it's lost its luster after awhile, so that might be one that kept going for way too long. Yu Yu Hakesho and Toriko were fun, but flawed. I really enjoyed Saint Seiya and Hokuto no Ken too. etc
But I can admit, long episodic shows aren't really for me. Like Gintama (400+ or something at this point?). I definitely can't do it. The longest episodic series I love the most, is City Hunter which was 4 seasons, though the last two were short. I think it's about 120 episodes then has a few movies/OVA's. I could have kept watching more of this one haha.
Just rambling, but I hope you're enjoying Maison! One of my favorites.

No, I'm talking about episode 310. The first two arcs happen, then there's a major filler arc, then a short arc, then another major filler, and those two really drag. Then when it gets back on track with the manga I enjoyed it, and the whole Aizen story comes to a conclusion at 310.Xeogred wrote:Was that episode like ~70-90 something? Watching those shonen mega-series is a full time job. Unless they're something you've been watching from the start and are really invested (like I am with Dragon Ball) I could never see myself even attempting to sit down and watch them.
They're a lot more like American comics and TV in that they keep going and pulling nonsense out of their butts as long as the money keeps coming in.

Re: What Anime are you Currently Watching?/Anime Recommendat

I finished up Coppelion last night. The gist here is a nuclear power accident devasted Tokyo into a radiated wasteland. The government wants to find survivors. So the SDF sends a radiation protection unit of highly trained commando veterans in to find them. Ha ha, just kidding, this is a Japanese cartoon show. Rather the SDF sends genetically modified high school girls wearing miniskirts to go find survivors. No, I'm not kidding. I can tell you right now the show's writer had zero idea how radiation works or why it's a threat to DNA. I'm not going to bother writing anything else about the plot because it just gets worse from there. You might think I watched this for ecchi, unfortunately no, the ecchi aspect really wasn't there. You're not getting upskirt shots ahoy or yuri love scenes, nothing like that. The reason I watched Coppelion is because its background artwork is AMAZING. The background artists kicked ass. Here's some examples:
PLAY KING'S FIELD.

I want Bethesda to hire that background artist and make a Fallout Gaiden set in Japan.

Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 was a good one with a similar scenario.

Yup, that is a good one and did like it when I watch it.Xeogred wrote:Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 was a good one with a similar scenario.

I've seen that one, and yes, it was better. I also enjoyed Rescue Wings, which is kind of similar.Xeogred wrote:Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 was a good one with a similar scenario.
