Realistically, I pretty much never read manga haha... so chances are I'll watch the Gantz anime someday anyways. I still want to watch Last Exile too.

Glad you like 90's Berserk, too many people rag on it. I'm pretty sure I binged the heck out of it too. The music was incredible.

Elfen Lied sucks ass dude... ... had to watch it because of all the rave back in its time. It wanted to be two shows in one and tries to scare you with little girls cutting people up. Even the blood was humorous, I don't recall it being detailed or actually gory at all unlike Genocyber with guts, brains, and bones drawn. I bet the Elfen Lied anime has aged horribly too haha, some of that early digital 2000's stuff looks terrible now. And those character designs... if anything, it's a good comedy?

Well if you're seeking gore, check out Blood-C, Hellsing Ultimate, and Shigurui.

Blood-C = new to me

Hellsing Ultimate = dat budget! A lot of fun and yeah it's got the blood. I don't know if I would put this above Black Lagoon or some of my other run n' gun favorites though. Sure wish Black Lagoon was still going...

Shigurui = totally forgot about this one haha. I remember it being okay, Texhnolyze director I think? It's weird with how much I love Japan, but I honestly find samurai stories to be really boring*. It's usually some old guys in the mountain in a little house, talking or not talking because it's all about honor, good female characters don't exist because they were slaves, etc. lol, I like Korean/Chinese historical Suikoden styled stuff way more... on the flip side, I freaking love samurai stuff in games like Onimusha, Way of the Samurai, etc. I think I like wielding swords in games a lot.

* there's always some exceptions of course! I was going to rewatch Kurosawa's Seven Samurai sometime soon, I remember liking it a lot.

Gore stuff is something fun to watch if you're in the mood but for me, I just need a show where I don't want to think too much as I am watching.

I'm like, 110 episodes into Naruto, and I can't tell if I love it or hate it.

If you're this far, I better just go all the way to the end and then you can make the real judgement of this show. :o

I'll basically watch everything that's on Hulu or netflix. After that it's dropped no matter what. So much of it is filler too.

Which is why I avoid long show now. The only long show i am watching on and off is Maison Ikkokou. Even with this, I watch anime on and off now.

Dude, tell us what shounens you have or have not seen.

There are far better options than Naruto.

I watched all of the original series and still need to finish off Shippuuden, which went for a YEAR of filler after the manga ended. Doesn't get much worse than Studio Pierrot. I read most of it too back in the day, then when I was caught up in Shippuuden and read the rest. Man, it's unsatisfying as fuck. The last arc, that goes on endlessly, is quite possibly the worst and laziest shounen arc I've ever seen. Ready to go down every trope and character conflict again? Oh get ready. The laziest cop out ending and final stretch ever haha, the creator clearly gave up and stopped caring.

Also, you know how Naruto and filler gets the joke of having all these flashbacks? They were jam packed in the end of the manga too. The dude just literally copy pasted old panels or something. It was shocking. Yeah, it's expected a little at the end of something so long... but I'm telling you, it was out of control and volumes were chalk full of flashback panels.

I also think Sasuke is legit one of the worst characters in the history of the medium, so it was hard to resonate with the series that strongly. I ultimately have just about nothing to say about the series or any character in retrospect. It's entirely forgettable in the long run. It's just like a bad ripoff of DBZ, Kenshin, and Flame of Recca.

I never did watch Bleach though, I hear that one got horrible haha. Was funny hearing my friends updated over the years. It's beyond goofy how Naruto and Bleach blew up in the West and Once Piece didn't when they were running against each other. One Piece absolutely destroys them.

For those who don't care about end Shippuuden spoilers:
Literally like every single character that had died, came back to life in zombie form in the last arc. It was supposed to be this big 4th Shinobi War arc thing, that had the craziest ass pulls and no good main antagonist or forces, because it was just an army of zombies and characters that were dead. So you get to see characters crying again about their conflicts with these arcs from years back and rinse and repeat. I can't even do it justice, but it was fan fiction come to life.

I watched Bleach up to the point where Ichigo beats Aizen, then stopped, because that was a good conclusion to the events of the story. Then they did some sort of ass pull to keep things going and based on the summaries it sounds like a bit of a train wreck. Aside from everything involving Kenpachi, of course.
