I liked Texhnolyze far more than Lain. Lain was just too navel gazing and slow for me. Texhnolyze brought some of the same ideas but had much better pacing and delicious pathos.

I watched Texhnolyze in 2007. Still the most fucked up thing I've ever seen. I really dug it.

I watch the show few years ago and man...if I have to say if the creator of the show want us to feel despair, he did it and the last few episodes I have that feeling when they're nothing they can do to solve the issue and it all go down to shit. Very hard to get into the show in the 1st few episodes (I know the 1st episodes is hard to get into).

Yeah, the ending alone is beyond fucked. 10 years later and I can't forget it. lmao, I'll rewatch it someday, but I must be in the mood for evil.

I remember the first episode having no dialogue I think, but I thought it was really cool.

I think it's why people who watch the show will still remember the ending even today as it hit you hard like a rock when you realize they is nothing the MC can do as everything is going down shit and even the person he want to try to save is even beyond fuck. The 1st episode don't have dialogue for the most part of it if I remember. Hell, I own the DVD box set for the show.

Have you watched both seasons of Gantz, the Urotsukidoji saga, or the original Berserk series?

As far as dark depressive dystopia goes, I've seen nothing that beats Ergo Proxy.

I did saw both seasons of Gantz and most of Urotsukidoji series. I would say, Gantz have potential in season 1 even though it start very slow and the characters you fellow tend to feel like asshole people or just dumb who you don't want to be with. Even with the flaws, you can see the potential for this series. Unfortunately, season 2 just give you a middle finger and I don't want to look into Gantz series in the manga or movie after I finish the show.

If you enjoy fucked up endings may I suggest School Days?

I've always heard the Gantz anime is really bad. I've seen stuff from friends about it though, looks like something I'd dig.

Berserk yeah, good stuff. I have no interest in the new movies and anime though, they look so terrible and I didn't like the first movie at all. The original series is great even if it omits some big details from the manga. I enjoyed my time with the manga, but it doesn't really resonate with me as strongly as it does most supposedly. I mean, if Miura doesn't care why should I? lol, I started losing interest once Guts got shafted into the background with a bunch of other characters taking the spotlight, he took up the armor and doesn't look as cool, and it all got more high fantasy. For something that goes on forever it's bound to transform into a different series along the way... and the infamous Casca scene legit pissed me off, which was probably the point. But it ultimately ruined her character to me too. Yeah it was an extremely bad event and makes sense, but it just got tiresome after awhile and destroyed her potential. I hear the weird Femto/Gods stuff still hasn't had much focus or resolve. I hate to say but I honestly never think about this series unless others bring it up. I don't really see myself getting back to it. But those first few arcs are great and the art is crazy.

I've seen like every tentacle related thing from Urotsukidoji's era and can imagine it's horrible. lol, I'm kind of immune to gore and don't really care by this point, but I don't really bother to seek it out either. That's the vibe I get from Urotsukidoji I guess, glad it spread the tentacles... but the series itself just looks like trashy stuff when there's probably more fun violent OVA's out there. On that note I'm thinking Genocyber is probably the goriest OVA I've seen and I think the director did a few more that were horrible but amusing. Cybernetics Guardian lmao.

Eh I guess I should watch Urotsukidoji sometime. I want to watch all the old OVA's out there for historical reasons.

Ergo Proxy was excellent, just a shame the ending was unfinished or something. I think I watched this one in 2007 as well. It's hilarious, but Texhnolyze was the first show I watched in 2007 that resparked my interest in anime. Of all the shows...

Gantz is fucking awesome and crazy as hell. The anime series that is. The Gantz 0 movie was poop.

Yeah I don't care to watch the new stuff either. The classic Berserk series is superb. One of the few anime series I truly binged. (I also binged everything Black Lagoon had... man I miss that show.)

Until you've seen the Nazi death rape machine, you just don't know man.

Oh sure, tons of them. You ever watch Elfen Lied?

For me it was Last Exile, also in 2007! That series convinced anime TV shows were worth watching after all.
