Do you see now why I say we should just instantly delete these kinds of threads?Ack wrote:Ok, a couple of things.
A) Grammar is your friend. Use it.
B) You created a thread in which you asked us our opinion, then when we gave them, you proceeded to tell us we were wrong and then launched into lists of games that some of us frankly may not care about whatsoever, all because a six year old said he felt Sega was lame. Don't you think you might be getting just a little bit defensive? First off, Glynnahab shared that story with us as a humorous little anecdote to laugh about, and second off, the kid is six. Do you really expect him to know everything that's on a console? Who knows, he may someday later in life learn to enjoy the Genesis, but he also might always think it's lame. Oh well, his opinion.
And quit with this "but let me list all of these great games to prove my point" because, you're right, SNES did have some great games with their mascots, but there were a lot of other great games on the SNES that aren't by Nintendo, and trust me, they're worth playing.
But ultimately? You're arguing over a couple of consoles that died out over a decade ago. Who cares? Do some research and you'll discover they're both good, but with different strengths and weaknesses.

Re: sega vs nintendo
I had a Mega Drive growing up and absolutely loved it. I wasn't that into RPGs at the time, so the SNES didn't have that much appeal.
I was only resentful of the fact that SNES got Mega Man X. I've always been a die-hard Mega Man fan and the fact that the SNES had it made me feel guilty about loving my MD.

Well, the topic did result in 4 pages of responses, so I really don't get why you would say that. Just imagine how many responses it could of gotten if the person who started the thread could put a sentence together...
Re: sega vs nintendo
I'd say I prefer Super Castlevania 4 on the SNES to Bloodlines on the Genesis. Dracula X on the SNES has good music but is otherwise one of the lesser 2D Castlevania titles in almost every way. I'm torn on the Contra issue, though. Contra III on SNES is fun, but so is Hard Corps on the Genesis. Hard Corps is definitely a bigger challenge and most boss-battle heavy, and the alternate paths are really cool. The Genesis, however, has the non-Contra that's better than Contra, Gunstar Heroes. THAT game is pure Contra-style action and beats both official Contra games in my book.RemyC wrote:Another interesting thing to factor in is: which has the "better" Contra, and Castlevania games?
And even though RPGs certainly weren't plentiful on the Genesis, it did have Phantasy Stars II and IV, two of the better 16-bit RPGs made.

When it comes to first-party games, Sega was Dreamworks Animation to Nintendo's Pixar. Ninty had/has a bit of magic that's hard to compete with.

Thread length is no indication of thread quality. Console war threads serve no good purpose.the King wrote:Mozgus wrote:Do you see now why I say we should just instantly delete these kinds of threads?

Is there a quantified way to determine which threads are high quality?
If the topic is of interest, people will respond. If not, the thread will disappear on it's own.
