I don't have a news link but NeogaF's owner Evilore has been accused of sexual assault. In the wake of the news, the mods have resigned and the site is now down after people went rogue.

This just seems so odd to me. I've been seeing mentions of this elsewhere, and didn't know if it was just rumor spreading by those who dislike the site, or if there was more to it.

Seeing as how strongly the site seemed to be against this kind of stuff, it's surprising in my opinion.

How, exactly, would the victim demonstrate "proof" of the encounter that precipitated this particular action on the site? The claim is that the owner of the site got into the shower with someone without permission. I would think that we are in the realm of "who do you believe more?" and that the fact that the alleged assailant already has a history of this kind of thing should be enough to sway your opinion in favor of "jumping" (or maybe "leaning") towards particular conclusions over others.

Yes, Amir0x. However, discussion on the subject was banned and the promised statement on it never came.

Given the close relationship between moderators and between Evilore and Amir0x, it's understandable nobody wanted to get involved once the matter came to light.

The reason is that, while its moderation was always bad and prone to nastyness such as calls for political violence, mocking rape victims and the promotion of harrassment and doxing it was reasonably decent in comparison to every other big gaming forums. It was the only mainstream site in which being explicitely homophobic or racist would get you banned, and that's important.

I do not believe we are the right people to reach any sort of conclusion or judge. I also do not believe "who do I believe more" is enough to judge anyone.

This doesn't mean one has to play dumb, just not act on it because that would be falling into mob justice. By the way, the alleged victim may have not wanted to share this publicy, it was leaked by others. So I would refrain from getting involved, as not only it is not our call as random gamers to do so, it's probably not in the alleged victim's wishes, either.

Sure it is - we all do that to make evaluations of individuals all the time on a regular basis. It isn't enough to pass any kind of legal sentence on someone, but it is certainly enough for us to make individual decisions about what we think was likely, how we choose to respond, etc.

He was accused back in 2012 as well. The site knew it had a pedophile Mod and tried sweeping it under the rug but when news broke they again tried to censor people talking about it. That mod was arrested and is pending trial. Tyler (Evilore) was accused of groping a woman in a bar back in 2012 while on vacation as well so this isn't a new thing for him.
