3D world had good music and MK8 has an insane OST. I agree tho the NSMB music is god awful with the Bah bah fucking shit. (the games themselves are not good either) I can't deny tho that Sonic traditionally had better music. With exceptions like SMW. Sonic Forces so far sounds awful.

Agreed on 3D World and Mario Kart 8. I'm cool with the new age / jazz fusion action going on in the new big budget Nintendo stuff.

Yeah I guess I should clarify... I only really like Genesis/CD era Sonic music (a LOT), but the butt rock from Adventure and the 3D games just cracks me up.

Love Crush 40 stuff but Sonic forces aren't them. It's just, I dunno just a mess of something harmful to my ears. If not a rock fan try Sonic Colors OST. It's pretty fantastic.

Puns.

Yeah, I've never liked Mario music. Usually it's music that just kind of gets stuck in my head, but that I didn't ask for, and didn't want--like the child molester of the VGM world.

I knew it would be Aquarium Park, before I even clicked on it. That's a great track, but I think Planet Wisp gets my top bill. The remix in Sonic Generations is also wonderful. Listening to these again has made me considerably more at peace than I was feeling a few minutes ago. Ah, the power of music.

I'm going to add my own unpopular opinion, that's not too unrelated: I think Super Mario Kart is a bad game. I didn't always feel this way, though; It's actually a very recent epiphany. In elementary school, I had a friend who I would play Super Mario Kart with constantly. It was actually his brother's game, but the three of us loved playing Super Mario Kart. Even when his brother got a Nintendo 64 with Mario Kart 64, we would still sometimes play Super Mario Kart. I had always thought very highly of those two games, until I played Mario Kart 64 again, a couple years ago, single player. That's a godawful experience that I wouldn't wish on anyone, but after spending part of the day today playing Super Mario Kart, solo, I realized that Mario Kart 64 could actually be worse. I find Super Mario Kart to be nearly unplayable. The controls, the feel of the karts, make absolutely no sense to me. Just trying to stay on the track is infuriating enough, but the AI makes me want to break tables. Seriously, screw Super Mario Kart. It's a hot mess, and I can't believe I ever actually put enough time into it to make it feel playable as a kid. Youth is to blame, I suppose.

I'm sure the battle modes in those two games are still good, though. At least I hope they are. I need to believe that they are--.

Maybe SMK hasn't aged well but it's still my favorite in the series and one of my most nostalgic SNES games. I will add to the unpopular opinion about kart racers esp Mario Kart.

Mario Kart Double Dash, Wii and & 7 are mediocre games. Esp Wii. It feels so uninspired. Sonic & SEGA Racing games are better and I would put Transformed as good as MK8. I personally like it more as great as MK8 is. (MK8 got me back into the series)

Absolutely hated Double Dash when I played some at a friends back then, I didn't get the two racers per kart gimmick at all.

I loved the SNES original back in the day but yeah, I'd rather replay F-Zero nowadays. Another funny music comparison, I can't recall any SMK track in my head at all but can easily remember a dozen F-Zero tracks.

SMK64 was amazing, though I liked Diddy Kong Racing more at the time. Have not played Diddy since then though, so who knows.

After that I've just been a casual fan at most. Really enjoyed SMK8, but it did do a few changes I didn't like and the powerups are getting a little ridiculous at this point. It's started to feel a lot more luck based than skill.

The worst thing about MK 64 is the rubber band AI. Otherwise it doesn't play quite as terribly, I suppose, but maybe it's just too difficult for me to go backward, now. I played a lot of MK DS, when that was released, and MK Wii. Outside of the Blue Shell, I have nothing against the newer Mario Kart games. Super Mario Kart, and to a lesser extent, Mario Kart 64, just do not hold up to my memories of them.

I had Diddy Kong Racing back in the day, and enjoyed it quite a bit, but haven't invested the time to see whether or not it will also betray me.

One last Kart opinion that won't be very popular. Crash team racing isn't very good. It's not bad just very mediocre. I first played it 2 years ago on PS3. I was never a fan of Crash, to begin with, but in a flash sale gave it a shot. It honestly just felt uninspired. It just felt like most clones. The story mode thing was odd to me and wasn't a fan. Never played Diddy Racing. That era I think had the most MK clones, they never died but it just felt like everything in existence had a Kart racer in the PS1/64 era. Disney, Looney Tunes, Mega Man, Chocobo, Muppets, South Park and then a bunch of Generic ones like Speed Racer and Extreme Go Kart and so much more. It's a shame so many were bad as the Konami one on GBA was quite good but god overlooked. Now I am still waiting for a SEGA All Star Battle Royal from Dimps in the style of Smash Bros. Yet to be a good Smash clone and would love one with Ryo battling Ristar or Vyse battling Flicky or Gilius.

I would say that is what makes Super Mario Kart not a great game.

The rubber band effect is absolutely ridiculous in that game considering the computer gets basically unlimited specials and can pass you no matter type or speed.

People who love the SNES version have great nostalgia for it and loved it back in the day as a kid. I never played Super Mario Kart as a kid and playing it for the first time as an adult, it is rough. The controls are way too slippery and it is nearly impossible to catch up.

I give credit to it for being one of the first kart racers ever, but the series surpasses it with every single entry afterwards.

Yeah, it's certainly bad in both. I guess I feel like 64 just always has a CPU right behind you when you're in first place, but the special items are definitely ludicrous. I had Toad behind me just tossing out mini shrooms constantly. It was maddening.

Yeah, this was pretty much my experience in replaying it after so many years. It's nice to see that you had the same troubles with it. I was kind of curious how it's been received now, by people who never played it back in the day, with it on the SNES mini.
