I can't stand the XCOM remakes (XCOM 2012 and XCOM 2). They can't decide whether they want to be strategy games or RPGs. The "strategic" layer is kind of a joke - there's not much real strategy to it. The enemies you face in missions get more difficult based on what month it is, and not much else matters. That means you can't really make a lot of strategic decisions about what to research or build in your base. There is a static power curve that you have to keep up with and you are powerless to slow it down. If you mess it up, you won't know it for another 10+ hours. So unless you have a LOT of save files, have fun starting over again.
XCOM 2, in particular is a bloated mess of a game where the basic design philosophy seems to have been, "What if XCOM, but more!"
The tactical battles/missions are awesome all by themselves. It's a shame they are wrapped in a bunch of bullshit masquerading as a strategy game.
As a life long fanatic of the strategy genre, they are pretty disappointing. (XCOM is tolerable. XCOM 2 is just awful).
(Also, Fire Emblem Awakening >>>>> Fire Emblem Fates. Come at me.)

I was going to mention after reading that first paragraph: "Is that not what old X-com was like?" But it seems you've addressed thatmarlowe221 wrote:I can't stand the XCOM remakes (XCOM 2012 and XCOM 2). They can't decide whether they want to be strategy games or RPGs. I liked Awakening as a game better than Birthright, I think, but Conquest blows everything about Awakening out of the water for me. Awakening is right about on the level of Revelations for me personally.marlowe221 wrote:(Also, Fire Emblem Awakening >>>>> Fire Emblem Fates. Come at me.)
I identify everyone via avatar, so if you change your avatar, I genuinely might completely forget who you are. -- Me

Lagoon is better than Illusion of Gaia.

Oh SNAP!BoneSnapDeez wrote:Lagoon is better than Illusion of Gaia.
...admittedly I don't entirely disagree. I think Illusion of Gaia is much prettier to look at, and I prefer the range of combat, but Lagoon has a quirky little charm and is genuinely challenging while IoG just feels...forced at times.
Re: Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?
Doesn't take much to beat Illusion of Gaia.

Love me some Quintet. But yeah, Illusion of Gaia is my favorite...

Lagoon better than Gaia? Wut.
(Actually, I can totally see that with Bone's taste in action-RPGs. I've actually always wanted to play through Lagoon, but always get stymied by the ridiculous attack range.)

Modern orchestrated Koji Kondo / Mario music is awesome.
However anything else in the newer Mario stuff, like the New series... or the "bah bah's" is almost legit terrible.
All Mario music is average at best whenever I think about it. Always seems so lazy too, like here's one track for 50 levels.
Mario music is bad. Sonic wins here by MILES.
