Ok, a couple of things.

A) Grammar is your friend. Use it.

B) You created a thread in which you asked us our opinion, then when we gave them, you proceeded to tell us we were wrong and then launched into lists of games that some of us frankly may not care about whatsoever, all because a six year old said he felt Sega was lame. Don't you think you might be getting just a little bit defensive? First off, Glynnahab shared that story with us as a humorous little anecdote to laugh about, and second off, the kid is six. Do you really expect him to know everything that's on a console? Who knows, he may someday later in life learn to enjoy the Genesis, but he also might always think it's lame. Oh well, his opinion.

And quit with this "but let me list all of these great games to prove my point" because, you're right, SNES did have some great games with their mascots, but there were a lot of other great games on the SNES that aren't by Nintendo, and trust me, they're worth playing.

But ultimately? You're arguing over a couple of consoles that died out over a decade ago. Who cares? Do some research and you'll discover they're both good, but with different strengths and weaknesses.

your right i see your piont i just got caught up in the moment but the funny thing is even though the system wars from the 16bit era is over, the funny thing is everybody is dropping the new consoles and going back to old school i guess people want to pick up a game and just play with simplicity and not confusion with the games of today.

Actually, due to the way Sega eventually marketed all their stuff(forcing gamers to decide between Genesis, 32X, Sega CD, and Saturn), I believe SNES technically won on sheer sales. I prefer the Super Nintendo, but I've never owned a Genesis, and I was a big fan of RPGs at the time. Plus in my opinion, the greatest fighting game released on either would be the SNES version of Street Fighter Alpha 2, so I definitely lean that way. I'm not surprised at the overwhelming turnout for Sega though. This board goes pretty heavy in favor for their consoles over just about anything, so I think having this debate is rather pointless.

I was just going straight Genesis vs. SNES, none of the debacle of the adds on like 32x or Sega CD. Most people I knew during that time period either had a straight Genesis or SNES and lucky few that had both. Like I said I don't know what the actual sales figures were, but based upon my memory and the availability of both now I'd still say they were the most even match-up of any generation. I personally like both, both for different reasons. Like I said in my previous post, if you were a sports gamer, the Genesis was for you. Another thing I remember at the time was that when the Mortal Kombat ports came out, the Genesis version was better because Nintendo wouldn't let the blood in, even with a code, but if you wanted to play it right you needed to buy a new controller for the Genesis cause their standard one only had 3 buttons. So, there were pros and cons at the time for both and still are, luckily now it's more affordable to own both. I'd agree it's a pointless debate, but isn't that why the internet and namely message boards exist, well that and porn?

Nah, it's cool. I can understand getting caught up in everything.

And the Mortal Kombat debacle's interesting. The first MK definitely goes to Genesis, but after that, Nintendo stopped censoring the games and they're actually closer to the arcade versions on the SNES. Both consoles have some interesting fighters on them that are worth checking out

Another interesting thing to factor in is: which has the "better" Contra, and Castlevania games?

It was an even match when they were out, Genesis was ahead for most of its life time, mostly due to it launching much earlier.. At the end of the Genesis life span, SNES was clearly starting to pull ahead, and in the end killed Genesis in sales. Most of the 16 bit wars had Sega leading, but SNES caught up quickly and Sega stopped production of Genesis too early. Nintendo pushed SNES for several years after Sega abandoned Genesis, hence SNES won the war in the end. SNES would have still won had Sega not cut off production, but the end numbers prob would have been much closer.

Sega also confused and alienated people with the 32x and Sega CD, but thats another story.

I had a Genesis when I was little and was disappointed when my parents got me that, instead of SNES. I did get some time playing an SNES but didnt own one until the last year. As for my current day preference, its definately the ....... Genesis. And its not even close. I play Genesis more than any other system I own by a long shot. I barely ever turn on the SNES. Its not that its a bad system, I just really get into the Genesis games.

Sega Hardware has always won me over with it's unique look, but I think Nintendo is generally more competent with games. Look at the progression of mascots and tell me which character you'd rather play today.
