PS2 troubles

When my PS2 starts up and whenever it is reading the disc it will make a sharp click sound. (SCPH-39001) I sent this system in to Sony in November and January... From what I'm thinking the grease is about gone on the laser rails (this was the case before I sent it to Sony in November) and regreasing would help. Should I send this back in? I have about 17 more days left of the warranty. I now know how 360 owners feel with the RROD

I would take advantage of the warranty before it runs out.

Make sure to note the number of failures you are seeing. There may be an underlying reason for the failures. Bad hardware, bad surge protector, or environmental issues could all cause repeating problems.

A dirty laser causes this problem. The drive assembly basically runs out of track before the laser actually picks up data, hence the click. If it's in warranty take it back to Sony. However a DVD laser cleaning kit may do the trick.

From what I found online it seems to be a problem with the laser guide arm, I would be suprised if it was a dirty laser. My PS2 is kept in very good condition and I clean it once a week.

well don't clean the laser too much. It just need's dusting every few weeks at the most. Unless you are a smoker, it should not get that dirty.

I never clean the laser on any of my systems. Most of the time I've never had them get dirty in the first place Doubt overcleaning would do anything other than having a very clean laser.

From my experience this problem has only occured when my laser was dirty. Cleaning the laser fixed the problem. The only conclusion I can come to is that this particular problem can be caused by more than one issue.

Have you had any luck with problem yet?

Nope, I really want to take it apart and see what's causing it, but warranty :/ I'm shipping it to Sony tomorrow.
