Actually, due to the way Sega eventually marketed all their stuff(forcing gamers to decide between Genesis, 32X, Sega CD, and Saturn), I believe SNES technically won on sheer sales. I prefer the Super Nintendo, but I've never owned a Genesis, and I was a big fan of RPGs at the time. Plus in my opinion, the greatest fighting game released on either would be the SNES version of Street Fighter Alpha 2, so I definitely lean that way. I'm not surprised at the overwhelming turnout for Sega though. This board goes pretty heavy in favor for their consoles over just about anything, so I think having this debate is rather pointless.

I recently bought a Genesis along with the 6-pak cart, Sonic 2, and Sub-Terrania. My younger brother had a Genesis growing up, and I had an SNES. While I experienced the Genesis somewhat, I didn't really know it all that well.

So after I receive the console in the mail, I hook it up and start playing a few games on the 6-pak with my 6 year old son. After about 30 minutes of playing Streets of Rage and Golden Axe, my kid puts down the controller and says, "Dad, Sega is lame."

Naturally, I try to explain to him that there are many great games that he does enjoy on the Genesis- namely Sonic and Gunstar Heroes (the latter of which we play on the VC on the Wii). But he remains unconvinced, and says, "Nintendo has Mario, Yoshi, Mario Kart, Zelda, and F-Zero. That's why Nintendo is better. Sega just has Sonic."

So, according to my 6 year old, Nintendo wins.

Argument over.

You guys can let this thread die now, because it has now reached resolution.

glynnahab that is your son i have 2 kids that both have the nes at my parents house and they have all the classics mario zelda yoshi ninja gaiden punch out etc. and for some reason both my kids rather play the genesis on the laptop anyday than the nes. they say that mario gets boring grant it their 8 and 6 but show your kid turtles or vectorman or streets of rage 2 or 3, shinobi 3, earthworm jim, sonic and knuckles, wwf royal rumble, kid chamelion, rocket knight adventures, spiderman, xmen 2, zombies ate my neighbors i could go on with this all day but give the genny a chance. she wont let you down just go on youtube and type in top genesis games and let him watch. besides where i go for old school games genesis games except a few rare games, the regular games are always 3-5 dollars where the same game for snes is 10-15 dollars so i go for the cheaper price

My kid sister chooses Sonic over Mario and Donkey Kong Country any day.

....Lame...really? You need to fix that man.
He needs more violence. Maybe some splatterhouse (3 is the goriest).

In general beat 'em ups don't fair too well in this world anymore. Even I have trouble staying amused after the first few stages of any beat 'em up. Which sucks, cause most don't pick up until the later half of the game.

Somewhat of an unfair comparison, NES vs. Genesis. And you can't use Earthworm Jim and Zombies Ate My Neighbors, as those are cross platform.

For me it was always SNES. I've always been a big RPG fan and that's where the majority of them were.
