Now I want to try and get to 100!...
I asked if others here count quick arcade runs of games as beaten and yeah, I guess why not. See the credits and it counts. So these are the ones I've beaten this year off the top of my head looking at my Steam library. Always loved Ikaruga even though it's different, it's gross that I used to be able to 1CC it back on the 360 I'm pretty sure... and I specifically remember "Easy" was much harder to beat, because there's less enemies and beams that you can use to your advantage with the charge shots. This game requires a lot of time to 1CC, but I just free played it for memory sake and had fun. Too bad Radiant Silvergun isn't on Steam.
All in all, the best game of this batch and probably dethrones Ikaruga for me, is easily Mushihimesama. This game is mindblowing. It's got like an Uncharted level of polish and production values for an arcade shmup, but the gameplay is incredible as well. Even if you're not out to 1CC it or doing bad, it just simply feels sublime to play and you feel badass regardless. The visuals and colors are handled incredibly well too, some bullet hell types get way too obnoxious with colors or varied projectiles. But dying in Mushihimesama ends up not feeling unfair, rather I can see exactly where and how I messed up and continue to improve my skill. I'll keep going back to this one. I wish the sequel would be put up on Steam too. I'm usually more for the sci-fi aesthetic in shmups, but this is full on Nausica (literally) and yeah. Literally everything about this game is basically perfect.
Thunder Force 4 is still my favorite shmup. Yeah, I'm that weird guy that likes horizontal ones. Because 16bit shmups rule. But I can easily give the vertical throne to Mushihimesama now.
