...on an old 'oven style' nes. And let me say- not only was it crazy easy but really worth it. I HIGHLY recommend that anyone who regularly enjoys their nes do it. I cleaned a couple carts (just to make sure) and popped em in. I was surprised at how easily they played. I didn't have to jiggle or anything. They just started right up and played perfectly.

I always kind of associate opening a system and tweaking it in any way to be a huge task, and the nes really wasn't. Took about 20 minutes if that. All you need is a screwdriver.

really- do yourself a favor. Open that bad boy up.

Agree fully. It's a $10 part and opening up the NES and replacing the connector requires no soldering.

No soldering, and you don't even have to mess around with security bit screws, all you need is a standard size philips head and about 5 minutes.

After you replace it though, just make sure to clean any old carts before you put them in. You don't want to get dust and gunk on your new pins.

What is recommended for cleaning the carts? Is rubbing alcohol still the norm?

Yeah, because of its quick drying time. Either rubbing alcohol or a bit of Windex if you have some of that.

I suggest using 90% rubbing alcohol or stronger. I don't use anything less, myself.

72-pin connector is the best option to fixing the NES.. 8)

You can never really clean a game's connectors with a Qtip unless you actually open the cart. Trust me I compared the results its not very impressive.

I'd love to share a site I found... I can say I clean all my carts with their kit and its never left me less than absolutely impressed! After I changed my 72 pin my games worked the instant the power button was depressed... scary to see a game work INSTANTLY without trying several times or blowing... never blow in a cart...*cringe*
