How long are your average gaming sessions?
Re: How long are your average gaming sessions?
Xeogred's response is closest for me, although my sessions without stopping rarely break the two-hour mark. During the week, I'll usually slide in 1-2 hours a night, although that is a bit truncated a few nights a week due to other obligations (and sometimes by choice when I'm just cruising the 'net). On the weekends, I'll often get 4-5 hours in a day, although sometimes, if I'm really enthralled, I'll get in upwards of ten (with breaks). Those days tend to be rare, though.
This actually fits pretty well with the way I used to game. The longest gaming session I can remember putting in as a kid was with Dragon Warrior IV, and it topped out at four hours before I had to take a break. I just can't see doing more than that in one sitting.

Re: How long are your average gaming sessions?
The longest gaming session I ever did was 8 hours straight, when I played through Half-Life: Opposing Force. But that was back around ~2000. These days it's very rare for me to play a game longer than 3 hours at once (or per day even). The reason is; I start to think about the more responsible/useful ways I could be spending my time. That's the reason I game late at night, by then at least my daily responsibilities are taken care of, thus less guilt. That same "guilt" repercussion could be elicited from any form of entertainment in excess, not just gaming. (And I'm not judging the way anyone spends their own free time here, just speaking personally.)Sarge wrote:I just can't see doing more than that in one sitting.

Shenmue II in 2003. 24-hour session. Xenoblade in 2011. 19 hours. Dragon Age Origin's 2015. 17 hours. That was the last 10+ session. I just don't allow myself to be that way anymore.

Oh god, when we get to longest sessions. I have regularly done 16 hour sessions in my youth. Oh jeez.

When I was younger I could play all day, these days I can't really do more than 1 to 2 hours at a time. Too many other responsibilities/distractions.
Plus my wife starts hemming and hawwing if I take up the TV too long. Gotta get my own game room.... !

I wholeheartedly recommend a man dork cave for every grown gamer. Especially if you're married with kids, and need a safe space to game in peace.yaktaur wrote:Gotta get my own game room.... !

I am luckily at the point where my 2 year old is super excited to watch me play games and my wife is always eager go play co-op so I haven't had to battle for the tv. Who knows what the future will bring though!Exhuminator wrote:I wholeheartedly recommend a man dork cave for every grown gamer. I would love to have more space to game peesonally. Most of my systems are in my closet to make room, but one day they will be out in full glory!!!

Unfortunately I live in London (and have to until we get Indefinite Leave To Remain) so the dream of a dork cave is far in the future. We already pay a nuts amount for a (luckily largeish) 1 bedroom
I tease about my wife but she's usually pretty chill with my gaming and the space taken up by old carts, even if she doesn't game much at all (I'm trying to turn her love of Tetris into a larger interest but it isn't sticking)

What you do is put a smaller TV off to the side but near the main TV, so that when you game you are still sharing a space, and you can either put on headphones or just turn the sound down so as not to interfere with the TV watching.

Re: How long are your average gaming sessions?
Really depends on the game, but maybe an hour on average? I find that's about the max for me when it comes to more actiony games or games that take a bit more effort for me to play (like platformers, shooters, and tactic RPGs). I can play visual novels and turn-based RPGs for longer though, assuming that I'm not tired and that they're actually enjoyable for me to play.
