Major news, keeping it short here.
SNES CE which was to terminate production 12/31/18 will now keep being sold well into 2018
NES CE RETURNS in Summer of 2018 brought back it appears as it was
Seems Nintendo really wants to fix things with the negative PR and look like the good guy on this one fixing the NES wrongs and making the SNES not suffer it at all. Poor scalpers, best find something else to be jerks over. Hah.
SNES CE now selling into 2018, NES CE to return 2018
Re: SNES CE now selling into 2018, NES CE to return 2018
Good news. I might pick up the NES version if I can ever get it at the original asking price but it isn't really high on my agenda as I have zero nostalgia for it other than playing SMB in Boots the chemist, which was the only place we ever saw these as kids in the UK (despite what Youtuber revisionists would have people today believe.)
As I have a SNES classic pre-ordered it doesn't really affect me either, but again, always fun to see scalpers suffer.
I guess now they can go back to inflating the price of every other fucking thing.

Terrible news. I wanted to sell my NES Mini and make a huge ass profit on it.
Fucking whining slackers, who couldn't be arsed to put in the hard work I did, making Nintendo u-turn.

I still the the NES classic was just an issue with licensing.
I will gladly buy one of each if I can get them at sticker price.

I hope the NES classic has the same lineup of games when it returns in summer 2018

If it doesn't, then it's very likely that the original release will command a premium.samsonlonghair wrote:I hope the NES classic has the same lineup of games when it returns in summer 2018

I'm with him there's zero motivation or need to change it so I hope they just leave it alone. ATGames rarely mixes it up unless it's a small library change over licensing/interest really but it's mostly static. Nintendo being in total control of their stuff would be easier to change or leave things as is with kind of a middleman removed.
Now have we figured out any new data on the 29th being a week out on best ways to acquire one of these?
We know now that any +1 preorders scalpers got cute over got revoked meaning some losers had to return some good money on ebay but weren't offered up again. What stores will shove them back online or just in boxes to retail? What store may get more than others? I'm going to try and figure out the best option to snap one on Friday.

I bet they update the security so you can't hack the new models... (until the updated security is cracked)

I read that the guy who did Hakchi2 somehow got his hands on one and said that it's just as open. I never did find where that was quoted from so I have no idea if it's bs or not, but if it's a legit statement that thing is going to be ripe for some major updates. Far far fewer special chips and bs with the SNES vs NES so what is emulated there should handle nearly everything. DSP, FX and SA1 will be handled, and if the core is based upon the VC on the WiiU/3DS then also include the C4 for MMX2 and X3. That would just leave out a few off the wall one offs mostly and the SDD1 (Star Ocean, SFA2.)Reprise wrote:I bet they update the security so you can't hack the new models... I think for Nintendo's purposes though, most of that is pretty much irrelevant. If they were trying to sell additional software for it, that might be one thing...but as it is, it's a one-time purchase. Someone loading one up with more games could just as well be using any number of other platforms for emulation.
