Confused about Metal gear series.

I prefer Metal Gear Solid over MGS:Twin Snakes. While Snake has been improved, the enemies haven't, which makes parts of the game that would make you tense and cautious seem like a complete pushover. It just completely destroys the immersion of the game, at least for me.

Plus, there's those completely over-the-top, Wachowski Brothers-directed cut-scenes.

Also, it makes baby Jesus cry when you mention MGS4 as the one good game on the PS3. The best games on all systems these days seem to be their online-download ones, and while most of XBL and Wii Shopping Channel's goods can be experienced with emulators or a backup-friendly Xbox and Dreamcast, PSN's goods are almost completely exclusive to the PS3.

It's not that I have anything against the PS3 but I already have a very good PC and I don't see that many exclusive games for that console. Also the PS3 is expensive as hell! Here in our beloved PAL zone games are 65 € and the console itself costs 400€. Euros, not dollars. With that money I can get tons of good games for other systems.

I think I saw Twin Snakes one day around here but yes, it seems a hard find because it's on GC. Btw the systems I own are PS2, Wii, PC, NDS and some older nintendo handhelds.

I did not know of the Metal Gear collection. How much goes it for? I don't think I would be able to track one of those nearby but if the price is worth it I will just use ebay or something.

MGS3:Snake Eater doesn't have a radar system like the other games in the series (because it's set in the 60s) so for a beginner to the series it will be very difficult if you aren't used to not relying on your radar. Therefore it's better if you get Subsistence because it allows you to move the camera (like in MGS4) so that you can actually see enemies before it's too late.

MGS4 is very good but I wouldn't pay for a PS3 JUST for one game. There are a handful of games worth buying for the system but it's just too expensive (for the games and system) in PAL territories.

Not meaning to throw any more games into the confusion which is the Metal Gear Universe, but another one worth mentioning is Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions for the original Playstation. It included 300 training courses aimed at improving your fighting, sneaking and problem-solving. In Japan, it was released bundled with Metal Gear Solid: Integral, which was an enhanced version of the original MGS. Unfortunately Integral never saw a US release outside of the PC, but the VR Missions disc was released in the US and Europe (where it is known as Special Missions.) It's a great deal of fun, and if you enjoyed any of the VR training on the other MGSs or like having the "enhanced" versions of all the games, it's a good buy.
