Anybody else having trouble keeping up?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Yeah, like I said I haven't witnessed much of that here. I can understand the frustration being a Mod and seeing multiple topics about the same thing, but I think it could be confusing for some people because other forums get pissed if you phoenix a thread. I would love to be able to delete my own posts so I could keep my b/s/t thread neat.

Exactly! There's so many better reasons to get pissy with Mozgus.

I backed off on content patrol because apparently I'm wrong a lot, though I've been mildly successful as a spammer-killer.

Also, I think I'm the only mod who doesn't show up as a mod, but rather "Next Gen", as my little descriptor. Weird.

Being a newb, I resent this topic

Just kidding....

I have noticed there has been an influx of repeat topics the last few weeks. Most of the time it has been about something that there was a big discussion going on literally at the same time (onlive, game informer.)

My thoughts are that as the community grows, the same discussions are going to happen again and again. The thing is, that on some subects, if the is a bunch of new members since the last topic on a subject, you can still get a fresh conversation going because of the new points of view of the "noobs."

The thing that makes me angriest is when someone registers and just to make a FS thread, and pretty much only posts in that thread. This especially bothers me if the person is selling things for significantly higher than market value and really over valuing the stuff they are selling. Anyone who follows the boards knows exactly who I am talking about in this matter.

In general Mozgus is very good about handling repeat threads, as the concept genuinely pisses him off, at least as far as I can tell. Mostly I feel I handle spammer duties by sending some kind words, along with flowers and chocolates, to Racketboy's favorite country. By the way, the spammer nation of choice for Racketboy.com? China. Though lately I've been pretty disturbed by the shift to Gmail by all the spambots.

And then there's the occasional misbegotten user who requires a reprimand. It doesn't happen often, but occasionally we'll have an issue. And while I won't always step in, I review the arguments that break out and then begin searching to see if a user is developing a pattern of aggressive or stupid behavior in their posts. Likely we won't have a problem, but I figure it's best to be prepared and watch this place like I was KGB.

So the next time you want to insult a fellow Racketboy.com member, remember, Big Ack is watching.

I think it's about perfect right now.
It's still much smaller here than many other good sites. I agree with earlier comments that said that when it's much slower, it feels like questions go unanswered and otherwise good conversations die off.

Retro implies older crowd.

And hopefully, older means wiser.

Right? Right?!

When I signed up this seemed like a very close knit forum but it was slow. I didn't check it every day because the content just didn't pile up. Personally I like fast paced forums where you can get a few good replies to a thread in a work day.

There is a lack of jerks here though and I hope that stays the same without the need for overbearing moderation. That's been the downfall of many forums I have been on. When a laid back forum gets so busy moderators start making bad decisions just because it's too busy is when I usually bail on a forum.

I used to like Hforum for tech stuff a few years ago but they are my case in point for over worked mods turning into bad mods. Any criticism to a decision no matter how nicely worded resulted in mass banning everyone who posted in a thread questioning a mod or site change. That's a good forum turned bad by too many people and not enough time in my opinion.

I guess I'm one of those newer people. I've been lurking for awhile, so I don't feel very new. Racketboy's hidden gems and defining games lists have been keeping me busy for months (SUPREME THANKS BY THE WAY!). I just only started posting more recently though. So, hi. You have been invaded. All your base are belong to noobs.
