I'm playing through Dragon's Crown on PS3 so I can unlock online multiplayer to play with flake (who the fuck requires you to UNLOCK multiplayer? and to play like five hours' worth to unlock it?)

I'm also trying - and failing - to beat Unicorn Training on Android. The dev is a really good friend of mine, so I bought it to support him. It's actually not bad, but it's brutally difficult.

Have you played either of the Legends games already?

I beat the original MML back around ~1999. I got to the final boss of MML2 around ~2001, but I couldn't beat the final boss. I plan to beat MML2 eventually. I really enjoyed both games.

Yeah. I really tried to like Dragon's Crown, even played it co-op. But I just couldn't get into it. The game is very much centered on continuously grinding through recycled content, even more so than your normal Vanillaware shenanigans. I enjoyed the artwork tremendously though, and I felt I got my money out of the aesthetics. But Dragon's Crown could have been so much more than it actually is.

I just noticed Exhuminator is back.

Just beat both Legends games back to back dawg. Yeah the final boss in 2 was a pain, it literally takes ~15 minutes for a full round trip, leaving the final dungeon for some shopping and to go back to the last save. But I went ahead and did that and spent all my zenny on expanding the Energy Canteen, enough for like 3 full life refills. Then the fridge I bought for Roll had a picnic lunch (full restore) and I had some other food consumable. So with 5 full refills I was able to finally beat it.

I watched a friend play a lot of Tron Bonne back in the day, but it kind of looks like the parts of Legends I disliked. Bunch of mission based gimmick minigames and stuff? Just give me an awesome village of cool NPC's and let me go DIGGING in dungeons!

pierrot, the release order was:
Legends 1 (took me ~9 hours casual and doing some side quests)
Tron
Legends 2 (13 hours)

Maybe try Legends 1 first. It's a 10/10 and Tron was awesome in it, but she was noticeably different and way less cool in 2. Those lame ducks hijacked Bonne time.

started AM2R the other night. Is it just me or do the jumping mechanics feel just a little on the fast side? Samus feels twitchy.

Could be that smoother framerate. Super is arguably pretty floaty but I love that. They totally went for the GBA style of control with Samus, for better or worse.

This remake was like a 10/10 for me and I might even like it more than the GBA games. Kind of crazy.

I started Sudeki on the Microsoft XBOX this afternoon!

I'm kind of torn on the graphics. They look kind of good, but they also look like early 3D modeling and weird appearances. They look a little like ReBoot, but not weird colors.

I was fiddling around with that one a couple years ago, but was pretty immediately put off by it. I'm curious to read more of your thoughts, after you've spent a bit of time with it.

Yeah, I can see how you were put off. Visually, it does not give the best first impression. I have heard it is like Fable, just without the moral choices, so I'm fairly excited. Besides that, I know very little about the game.

If I beat it, I will definitely write a review of it.
If I don't like it and give up on it, I will explain why.

Yeah, I'm starting to see that, but I'm still enjoying it so far. Got to....level 14, I think? last night.

I definitely played and beat Fusion and Zero Mission on GBA, and enjoyed them both. But it's been a while, and I think Super Metroid I've played more recently, so maybe I just don't remember the GBA games as well. It could also be that I'm playing on my computer monitor, sitting nice and close, with an Afterglow 360 pad. Either way, wall jumping is a LOT harder now.

Last night I finished all the dock puzzle parts of The Misadventures of Tron Bonne. (The puzzles have to do with loading containers onto a ship, except with limited turns/moves.) This was a bit of slaying an old white whale. You see back around 2001 I got stuck on one of those puzzles, and couldn't finish the game. But it would seem 38 year old me is more intelligent than 22 year old me was. With all the dock puzzles cleared, I can now finish the rest of the game segments and beat it. That much should be a breeze compared to the crazy dock puzzle stuff.

First, welcome back! Second, TRONNE GONNA WOOOOO! To your point about getting better/smarter at games with age.... I would agree! We all say, "When we were kids we could tackle these hard old games but now, NOPE!" The reality is we got better at games, but refuse to have the patience to spend countless hours on poor old game design.

I am glad you beat one of your white whales! That feeling is always tremendous!

Agreed. Princess Crown and Muramasa are brilliant. Odin Sphere and Dragon's Crown = meh.

Too true. These days I am all too keenly aware when a game is deliberately wasting my time, and I have little patience for it.

Take it from me; unfortunately you can also add Grand Knight's History to the "beautiful but meh" pile.

I still haven't tried GrimGrimoire yet, so no verdict to offer there. But considering I never read anyone talk about GrimGrimoire ever on forums, it seems to be a game the world quickly forgot.
