Maybe one day I'll begrudgingly sit down through the original games so I can be as justifiably grumpy as Dsh Sensei
Like I've said before I don't understand the appeal but I'm glad people are getting a new installment in something they love after all of these years.
It's because it didn't have robots or mechs, isn't it? Mr. Albert Macklin.

Forklifts are like proto-mechs, though--. :(

I'm really partial to dsh's chronic misspelling of the title. Classic.

I was reading through the original interview, and a few things struck me:
- Yu showed the interviewer a longer (two minutes, 30 seconds) version of the trailer than what was put on the web.
- Seems he was actually in negations with Sega (among others) about publishing.
- Appears to not be too concerned with preserving the originally planned scenarios, scene for scene. He talks a bit about the staff, engine, and conditions surrounding a game driving the course of its direction. So, the final product will have some "arrangements" to the original plan for the story.
- I kind of liked his thoughts on the "feel" of Shenmue: rather than the 'dried-out' visual aspects of a lot of modern games, he wants a feeling of "humidity"--like right after a rain shower--or the smell that wafts from a strung up pig in a Chinese market.
- Though it pains me so much to hear this, he apparently doesn't think that the Virtua Fighter style of engine was ever a good fit for Shenmue, and that the combat should really reward a player's decision making; not just timing specific buttons. The new combat system will supposedly fit those ideals, without any relation to Virtua Fighter. He also wants to make sure that the combat doesn't get in the way of a player progressing through the game.
- Doesn't like scary movies. (That's a shame.)
- The phone calls to characters from the first two games are sort of meant to help new players (and I suppose series veterans) piece together / remember key events, rather than front loading a bunch of relevant exposition.
- I'm a little sad that it seems there won't be much, if any, new music for the game.

Did you read the Famistu interview too? That one had some points I felt were interesting an reassuring.

- Discussions with Deep Silver have been going on for a while
- Yu Suzuki states that with the publisher on board, it means they are able to aim higher than their initial goals
- The release delay was done so they can "enrich the content of the game"
- Shenmue III's story starts from the day after the final scene in Shenmue II (there had been lots of speculation that Disc 4 on Shenmue 2 would be remade as the opening of Shenmue 3)
- Yu Suzuki wants to help new players get up to speed with the story and wants to include a "digest", but isn't sure it will be a movie or what
- There will be flashbacks to events that happened in the previous games
- They're working hard on creating lots of 'Shenmue-esque' mechanics and gameplay elements in regards to mini games and jobs
- Wants to include lure fishing. You will be able to sell fish to make money
- Wood chopping will be included as another way of making money
- Forklifts will be included in some capacity
- QTEs will of course be in the game
- New fighting system is being built
- This trailer was just a teaser to show development and promote the partnership with Deep Silver. Full-scale promotion will not begin until the end of the year at the earliest, but more likely early next year
- As such, there won't be an appearance at the Tokyo Games Show or anything
- The 'trial' version of Shenmue 3 that was promised to backers is planned to be similar in style to the 'What's Shenmue?' demo
- Yu feels a great sense of responsibility to make both a game that he will be happy with, but one fans will be happy with too
- As a result of the deal with Deep Silver, Shenmue 3 will be "beefed up" compared to what was initially planned

If I never saw the word "dojo" after the word Shenmue again I'd be happy.

Why?
It's poorly run. I know the people who run it. The owner is a good guy(also practically neighbors with my brother) but lets a lot of shit fly that shouldn't fly. He also rarely visits the place. He's just too passive. The head mod has gotten a bit power mad. He's been on a streak of banning people for little to no reason. On PSN and other websites where they fled have expressed to me their disdain to me in DM's for a place they once loved. For Shenmue news tho it's probably the best out there. It's just not a place you want to post in unless you like walking on eggshells about Shenmue. I won't mention names but the head mod takes Shenmue so seriously it's an unhealthy obsession, coming from a guy who used to have one himself(hint it rhymed with mojo). So if she just doesn't like what anyone has to say about Shenmue, he takes it as a personal insult. Drove most of the regulars away as well as donators. He's also banned long time regulars because he didn't like them or they disagreed with him on something. You can be the guy who trolled the place multiple years under hundreds of accounts and still be allowed to post there...as long as it's not in the Shenmue section of the site. (I am talking about someone specific) . Now I left the place in 2013 to get away and find myself but came back in May to post a little as enough time had passed where I felt I could post healthy. I and the few regs still there got along just fine. It's was pretty cheery really. Then one day boom Perma banned..because? He just felt like it. 14 years there. A little bitter yes, I won't deny it. I just know I'm not the only one.

*Shrugs* Why the drama? It's just a forum. Sounds like a pretty shitty situation. I post there and have been a member for about 7 years and a lurker for god knows how long before that. I honestly didn't really know all that. I have little to discuss anymore in the way of Shenmue (other than OMFG Shenmue 3 is happening!!! I can't wait!!!), so haven't really posted much there over the last 12 months.

Lol Drama is Dojo's middle name. All the way back to its first couple years. I think only Gaf bests SD in the amount of drama that place has had over the years. From everyone else's meltdowns to the owner's meltdowns (not the current owner) to other mods meltdowns to my meltdowns 6 years ago to whatever. From the days of Louis and Teepo to the days of Admins in blue having the worst times of their life let their emotions bleed onto there and spoil things. Shenmue Online meltdown. They had a meltdown when Shenmue wasn't at some event this year. The Kikizo meltdown is legendary. (Shenmue III announced in 2005 for next gen systems like 360 and PS3)

Why the drama? is a good question but there was a point everyone felt like they really knew one another. Something about SD always drew people back despite the BS. I have met some good friends I have now known for years. Some of them over a decade and 1 of them and the closest one from that place I have known 7 years. I also remember some couple born from that place. I think when there was no news for so many years people had to cling to something and at some point, it stopped being Shenmue as those sections were dead for a period of time. I guess everyone became an old married couple as well. It's a good question and it's just odd with no real good answer but I know the people who left or were banned I still talk to, are kinda bitter.

I did. There were a lot of really similar questions between the two interviews, though. Aside from the possibility of the fishing, wood chopping, duck races, and forklift diversions, I was most excited about the possibility of the demo being similar to "What's Shenmue?" My only question is, who would we get to chase after in it? I suppose the easy answer would be someone from Deep Silver, but I just wouldn't know anyone there from "Bob," so--.
