Oh, yeah. Say what you want about the facial animations, but those backdrops are damn pretty.

To everyone, that is insanely sweet and thank you from the deepest part of my being. All the love coming from this thread makes me smile and tear up to no end.

You all are just as equally awesome, I assure your. your passion and dedication and love for the unknown possibilities of games is what I feed off of. I wouldn't be so verbally in love with games if not for all of you guys!!!

Shenmue 3 is real! Beyond good and evil 2 is real!!!! Dreams can come true and the games you secretly love have others out there. Share that love.

Maybe one day I'll begrudgingly sit down through the original games so I can be as justifiably grumpy as Dsh Sensei

Nah it doesn't suck. It was pretty groundbreaking at that time. I mean, it may seem insignificant but pulling the light cord to turn the light on or off and the cord is swinging in what at the time seemed like realistic physics. That's attention to detail we didn't see back then and often still don't. As a game it's unconventional. People then and still many not sure what to make of it because they are thinking in a specific logic of games that Shenmue doesn't necessarily have to follow. Some games challenge logic in game design and shit all over it and we praise them as a classic. Burning the bush in Zelda. Shenmue is more divided as clearly most people just didn't get it. These are the same people who compare Shenmue to Yakuza series. The games could not be more different outside of surface comparisons. Love or hate them what Shenmue did still carry the industry into the 21st century. How a game is developed and its tools became the standard. QTE's love or hate became popularized in much more popular games and much more the game did. ironically it held SEGA back and Yu but not all pioneers are given praise. XFL (yes odd thing to bring up) gave us stuff now common in the NFL and NCAA. Sky cam. Mic'd up players and coaches. Giving us a view in the locker rooms. XFL failed overall but still carried the sport in some ways into the modern era. Now unlike XFL, Shenmue was kinda awesome.

There's been a few interviews over the last day or so with Yu Suzuki. Some points I have gathered from the Shenmue Dojo:

The released Shenmue III teaser footage is real-time in-game graphics.
• All character models are temporary placeholders and subject to change.
• Facial animations were initially implemented but were removed about a month ago, hence were not in the teaser trailer
• The teaser was especially made for Gamescom 2017, no further plans to show more of the game at this year's Gamescom or Tokyo Game Show. However, a full-scale promotion will take place next year.
• Deep Silver will publish the game internationally, and they'll provide budget and promotional support. A publisher for Japan is to be decided.
• Suzuki-san would like to continue the series in Shenmue IV if possible.
• Suzuki-san is not interested in forcing the Shenmue story to complete in Shenmue III.
• Shenmue III will take around 30 hours of gameplay to complete.
• The fighting engine in Shenmue III is being built from scratch, and unlike Shenmue II it won't use the Virtua engine.
• A system that allows phone calls with characters from Shenmue and Shenmue II is planned for Shenmue III.
• Suzuki-san would like to bring as many voice actors from the previous games as possible, but some are retired now, he will audition a new voice actress for Shenhua.
• OST from Shenmue and Shenmue II will probably be reused in Shenmue III.
• The new partnership with Deep Silver is strong and it's aimed to improve the Shenmue III experience beyond what was initially planned on the Kickstarter.

That's just from one interview. There's more details in this Famitsu interview too, which includes stuff on mini games (Suzuki wants fishing to be in the game, as well as more duck racing and fork lifts): http://www.phantomriverstone.com/2017/0 ... uzuki.html

Like I've said before I don't understand the appeal but I'm glad people are getting a new installment in something they love after all of these years.
