Am I the only one who thinks it's odd that the OP's referring to his Dreamcast as a girl?

Well,
both let you stick things in them for amusement...
both usually end up costing you a fortune over time...
and both whine incessantly...

Awesome find, man, thank you. I really liked it because they seem to have covered the most important aspects of the evolution of shooters, and focused on the games themselves. This does not happen very often.
I was watching the other day Discovery Channel's series "Rise of the Video Game" and was constantly annoyed about how they managed to focus all the time on secondary aspects of gaming. Worse yet, they linked every development in the gaming industry to political changes or other such thing. They wouldn't stop to think that cultural changes may happen despite political changes or that those very cultural trends that drive the advancement of the video game medium are also driving (and not responding to) political changes. Anyway, it was annoying (if entertaining for the bits of gaming history).

I liked it. Nothing I wasn't aware of, but it was interesting to hear some of the interviews and see some of the offices of developers. It was pretty thorough as well, though I would have liked a bit more detail on the evolution of scoring and the influence of other genres or sub-genres and maybe even some of the smaller advances made in later shooters, like multi-directional shooters (they showed Under Defeat at one point and didn't even mention one of the primary draws of it).

I've seen this one quite a few times, it's always a great doc to just chill and watch.
Amazing to see all the SHMUP's in action and some pros playing them.
