Official statement on politics on the forums

Post by marurun »

We at Racketboy appreciate the need for free speech in our society at large and the importance of sharing ideas. It is because of this that the mod team has taken the issue of political discussion on the RB forums as seriously as we have. Politics tends to strike very deeply at people's feelings and core world views. As such, discussions of politics can become heated and disruptive, and here in the forums we have indeed experienced this. In the interest of keeping our forums as welcoming and inclusive as possible, we are declaring discussions about politics to be off-limits.

This decision was not arrived at lightly, and is not the beginning of a movement to eliminate all off-topic discussion not related to games. It is merely an attempt to end the most caustic and divisive discussions that occur here.

Our new rules concerning politics are now live in section C.3 of the forum guidelines. C.1 applies especially strongly to the exemption carved out in C.3.

Seconded. Politics in this century has devolved into borderline perceived if not real hate speech between opposing views and do nothing but start fights at the least if not deep seeded hatred for nothing other than thinking a certain way.

Thank you for banning it. It works great over at AtariAge where they just lock threads or warn/wipe posts of those who make them as it keeps the place so much friendlier.
