Xanadu probably won't happen.

Hi pierrot!!

What setup for The Last Express? I have a physical copy and there weren't any emulators I knew of that interpreted it correctly -- but then again, the last time I researched this point was about five years ago now (egad). It was a known problem that cutscenes would get randomly skipped and such, and you do need those to know what's going on, so I shelved it for a while. I was planning to grab it on Gog someday. Unless there's some kind of issue for the Gog version too?

TJ&E is so great. I do know it frequently bores people who are playing solo, even though I love it as a single-player experience. If you can grab a friend it'll be more fun.

What's impossible about Xanadu? Maybe you should just wait until the translated English dub comes out. Then you can make a goal out of playing until you find my voice in there. :D

Oh, I don't know if I had encountered that at all. About a year or two ago, I was using DosBox to run it, but I remember it took a lot of tweaking to make it playable. I don't have the settings I was using to run it anymore, though. I would assume the GOG version doesn't have any major issues like that.

I've never played it enough to really know if it would bore me or not, but I feel somewhat obligated to actually play through it at some point. Speaking of boring Genesis games--is that what we were talking about?--I'm pretty surprised you made it as far as you did in X-Men. I rented it as a kid, and thought it was really cool to play as Nightcrawler, but man alive, is that game a disaster.

What dub is this? You made it into a video game?
Xanadu is a really cryptic, old, computer game; You'd probably love it. Falcom originally tried to get permission to release it as a game in the Wizardry series. Last I played it, a few years ago, I was a few floors in, and accidentally killed a few enemies that are Karma traps--Karma is a stat that's affected by what types of enemies you kill, and if I remember correctly, there's a baseline needed to progress at certain points. Once Karma gets below 10, it's basically all over, because killing just about anything will keep reducing it, until it's at 0, when it's impossible to raise back up. It's a cool game, it's just tough as nails.

[...]World Transfers. Asura[...].

Yeah, it was a pearl from a concierge. I don't think I really want to transfer servers, and throw good money after bad. Maybe another server is better. Maybe it isn't.

A thought occurred to me that, if I had put as much time into Xanadu, as I have into FFXI, I might have actually beaten it.

FYI...The Last Express was ported to iOS; so, if you have an iPhone or iPad, you should be able to play it pretty easily.

Well, I just know that Asura is where the Reddit LS is, and other large new/returning player shells. Checking the LS Concierge NPCs here there only seems to be pearls for an English speaking shell in San d'Oria. If you got a pearl in Adoulin, that one looks to be a JP shell and may have just kicked you for not speaking Japanese.

I laughed really hard at this, thanks.

If you want to feel awesome playing at Nightcrawler, definitely try X-Men 2: Clone Wars if you haven't already. I play through exclusively as mah boi Kurt and it is the besssttt (but the other mutants are fun too, I guess :P).

Oh, no, I was thinking you meant Legend of Xanadu and were referring to it in a super in-the-know kind of way. My B.

Interestingly though, Wikipedia notes that at one time Xanadu was using images from the Ultima III manual in-game, and Garriott got on them until it was changed. Huh.

Thanks. That's good to know, if I ever have a gift card I need to figure out what to do with. In general, I'm pretty averse to spending money on the app store, though. Also looks like DotEmu might have handled the port? Have you by chance played that version before?

Redditers are probably the last people I'd want to play this game with, if I'm honest. There were a few "Everything" LSes, between the starter nations, and maybe something in Jeuno. I didn't even see anyone on most of them, though.
Thing of it is, I do speak Japanese. If I weren't concerned at all about the ruination I might be subjected to by GMs/SE, I'd be playing the Japanese client, as well. When I was living in Japan, I always played with Japanese players.

There are mutants other than Nightcrawler? :o
I probably should just play X-men 2, already. Even if I had the gumption to do it, beating X-men, first, probably isn't worth it.

Oh, you're talking about the PC Engine games? I often forget that they have the same name. Technically both games are, 'Legend of Xanadu,' but one is the second game in the Dragon Slayer series, and the other is the eighth. Personally, I refer to the old PC game as just "Xanadu." Congrats on being a VA, though. That's cool.

Hmmm, it's possible I confused things. Maybe it was just Ultima, and not Wizardry.

Eh, it's less only an LS for Reddit posters and more just one of the better known big LSes on Asura. It's not the only one. Either way, just not as much of that on Leviathan due to low population. Personally, not something I've really been looking for, so I've got no contacts or hookup.

I think it's less a matter of what you can actually speak, and initial impressions. Chances are, if that was why your pearl got snapped, they just saw it as (likely) yet another NA player not paying attention to the J under language.

Thoughts on Toe Jam & Earl: I--HATE--Boogeymen!

EDIT:

Well, I thought the Boogeymen were as bad as it could get, but the ice cream trucks were worse. Fortunately didn't run into them outside of one floor that was mostly desert(!).

Anyway, I beat the game. Used ToeJam, and played the Random World mode. I have to say that I was praying for those last two ship pieces to show up, by floor 20, but it's a pretty good game. I remember renting it a few times as a kid, and for that, and other reasons, it reminds me a lot of growing up in the early 90s. I just don't think I'd have a reason to play this game again, other than trying two-player. I feel like it should have spawned a genre of "wandering simulators," though.

--I hope I didn't miss anything after, "The End," pops up on screen--.

1. Toe Jam & Earl
2. Ecco the Dolphin
3. Devil May Cry
4. Salamander
5. Street Fighter Zero /2(')
6. Xanadu
7. Dragon Slayer: Legend of Heroes II
8. Final Fantasy II
9. The Last Express
10. Ryu ga Gotoku (Yakuza)

The ice cream trucks and the boogeymen are the worst. I had issues with hamsters too.

The game is more fun in 2 player I think, but it's still not a game I'd replay often. It's fun on occasion though!

You guys are breaking my heart. Toejam and Earl is one of my all time favorite genesis games. I do agree that it's better in two player though.
