EASY shumps!

Post by Erik_Twice »

Yeah you read that well. EASY. Not HARD. No Bullet hells and no Gradius. And hell no Defender because that game is hard.

I'm looking for some easy shumps (or not hard shumps) because most the shumps I know of are way to hard for me.I can get to the second stage on DoDonPachi but that's all. I don't really want an easy game but it would be cool to play a shump for more than 5 minutes.

So what do you recommend me?

Trigger heart is on the easier side but still really fun. I don't think ikaruga is to hard but that might be because i just loved every second of it.

The ThunderForce series is fairly easy. Especially VI.
And getting towards manic stuff Battle Bakraid is a god starting point. It's not so crazy that it's overwhelming, and if you want to go into it there's a crazy as scoring system that totally changes the game, but it's totally unnecessary to beat it.

I remember taking racketboy's recommendation of Zero Gunner 2 on dreamcast, it got me back into shmups big time. the pivot mechanic is great IMO.

It's supposed to take a lot of practice to get good at shmups, however, don't be scared to turn up player/bomb stock and turn down difficulty to feel out the game. I'll be the first to admit my guilt in this, but it's served me well in countless games.

Raiden is a little on the hard side, but it's not unreasonably hard. You don't have to memorize levels like you do in R-Type and it's not bullet hell either. Raiden also has a nice learning curve. It might be worth a try. It's eminently emulatable, too.

Hudson's 16-bit Soldier series for the Turbografx are easy and fun. If you don't mind playing a shmup from that era check out Super Star Soldier, Final Soldier (my favorite), Soldier Blade, and (while not of the series) Blazing Lasers. Here's a video of Final Soldier

Kaorus, Radio Allergy (AKA Radilgy, or Radrugy), and Chaos Field are all pretty cool and easy plus they're all available on the Wii for $20 in ultimate shooter collection, or Chaos Field can be purchased seperately on the cube if you don't have a Wii for abut $7 used at GameStop.

For three pricey Dreamcast SHMUP's in one package thats a steal.
My Consoles:
Genesis - Nomad - SegaCD - GameGear - Sega Saturn - Dreamcast - NES - SNES - N64 - Gamecube - Wii - Playstation - PSone & LCD - PS2 - PS3 - Xbox - 3DS
