Do you actually have an example of a game not being downloadable anymore for people who paid for it? Because I'm not aware of any cases like that, while I do know of a bunch of games that got removed due to licenses running out but people who purchased can still download.

But again, my point is you can either have physical but also scalpers, or go digital and remove scalpers. Which is more important to you?

Yeah, pre-Android I had a T-Mobile flop out phone with a keyboard and I had picked up a couple Sony games such as the port of Loco Roco. My phone within less than a year of getting the game ended up getting broken and had to be replaced. I went into the app on there to re-download all my goodies and they weren't there. I called the company and they said that Sony pulled the license and would not allow existing customers to recover their files as they would not allow the server to retain the files. Apparently had my phone broke about 1-2mo earlier my $5-10 whatever it was game would have been there to get again.

Here's the game if anyone cares, got a 9/10 rating at Pocketgamer.uk -- http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/Mobile/L ... sp?c=11940

Not a game, but there's that ironically famous lawsuit Amazon got slapped with in their early kindle3 (keyboard) days -- got in a fight over the licensing for 1984, lost the license, and then using their WiFi clutches not only removed the book from the site downloads, but anyone with WiFi enabled had it erased off the phones, some while actually in the middle of reading it. Ultimately Amazon lost, everyone with a Kindle screwed over or not got a few dollar credit the price of the book if you clicked on some legal email absolving them of future litigation.

Other than that, without my researching it, no. It's rare, but it has happened with digital services. Normally you find anyone who bought a game pre-license spat still can download it, such as on the Wii with the TMNT games after Ubisoft swiped up the license from Konami.

Bringing this thread back to life since pre-orders for NA finally went out and hands-on videos are up on youtube now.

So did anyone get a pre-order in from NA? i sure didnt.

My plan is to show up at Target at 530am and if too many people there at that time, then screw it.

Small town Wisconsin, so i dont have to battle crowds like people in New York or LA do.

I would really like to get one, but I'm not willing to put up with all this bullshit. I signed up for an email alert from Amazon, because that's where I would order it from if it were any other item. I don't care to sign up for alerts from every retailer (it would seem that it wouldn't have made a difference anyway). I don't care to show up at 5AM outside a store. I don't care to battle people for one. I especially hope I don't come across any obvious scalpers, because my rage for that might land me in jail.

I'm a die hard Nintendo fan, and this wont change that. But if I'm not able to buy a SNES Classic with some civility, then FUCK Nintendo. I can understand high demand for a hot Christmas item, and I'd have no problem waiting until demand can be met after the holidays. But that doesn't seem to be the case with Nintendo's Classic systems. I refuse to play this game.

That said, I hope I'm able to get one. I told my brother to BOLO for it too. If I can't get one, I was thinking about seeing if any one here would be interested in trading one for my (new in box) NES Classic. But I'm not paying scalpers' markup, and I'm not playing this rat race retail game.

I was able to get one preordered. Unfortunately I won't be keeping it, I'm going to gift it to my younger sister. She loved the snes but she doesn't have the time, space or money to have a cart collection. This is perfect for her. That's what the product was intended to be right? A gift for people who aren't collectors?

I have had enough of Nintendo and their lousy practices. Nes classic was a joke with so many people being locked out. Take pre orders and manufacture to demand.

With the way they treated the Wii U and personally I think the Switch is crap. Too many ports of old games, hhmm, sort of like the Wii U had. No Mario months into console, and missing most of the heavy hitters to date like Metroid and others. Fanboys can bury me with counterpoints but you cannot dispute the lack of games this far into the consoles life. You had Zelda, Splatoon 2 and a bunch of ports. Oh and Bomberman, but really, where are the games? I know, Skyrim is coming LOL.

People want this system, make enough, satisfy demand. Like Ziggy said, nobody wants to fight at a store at 5 am to get this. Put them up for order, even if you have to back order them for months, people will wait till you can ship them.

Screw you Nintendo. IF you mishandle this then I am done. No more Nintendo product. I will cast my vote. Anyway, Playstation is where all the games are at. Largest library, most exclusives, and most physical copies of games available.

Sorry guys, I needed to rant, now I am done. If it offends, just tell me and I will delete my post.

Nintendo is absolutely responsible for choosing to make a limited production, limited release item, but this whole gone in 60 seconds on preorders thing has nothing to do with Nintendo. It's the same thing with ticket sales on-line. The internet has enabled fantastic access to non-limited purchases but it has created a massive cutthroat scalp-fest for anything that is released in limited amounts or for a limited time. Nintendo doesn't want there to be too many of their Classic Mini consoles out there, in part because it could hurt Virtual Console sales (whenever that finally starts happening on Switch) and in part because it could actually slow adoption of the Switch. Nobody wants to accidentally be their own competition. Nintendo has told us they're making more of these SNES units, but also that they are still a limited release. That they haven't given us more detail is on them. But when Target and Walmart and Amazon sell out their preorders in 60 seconds and Gamestop's site grinds to a halt and then goes off-line, that's the fault of Target and Walmart and Amazon and Gamestop. There's enough blame to go around, and it's kinda not fair to heap it all at Nintendo's feet.

How about just telling retailers to sell as many as they can and fulfill the back orders created. No over production and everyone who wants it gets it. Nintendo limits how many the retailer can sell. Look at limited run, Ys is going pre order for twenty four hours. Everyone who wants it will get it. They are figuring it out why can't a company as old as Nintendo get it?

Let your retailers take pre orders for a limited time and fulfill the back orders. Why is that a bad business practice?

Hardware is very different from software. No console hardware release to date that I know of has had completely open pre-orders. Nintendo rations them out based on when they expect to have them available to ship. Just printing more discs and case inserts is very different from pushing out hardware. Besides, that then fails to address Nintendo's concerns about competition with the Switch and the upcoming Virtual Console for Switch, which is part of why they want to keep these releases limited.
